Mining claims

We would like to buy a claim here in California, but we are not too sure about the ones that are online like on ebay and mineral star mining. We have heard there are a lot of fake companies and sites that sell claims that are fake or are already owned. Has anyone had any dealings with any companies that are good or know where we could go to buy a claim. We would like to get one on the American river or Yuba river. Any suggestions would be great.  Thank you

Lead: Worth its weight in, well, Lead.

No matter where you prospect or treasure hunt, and no matter the methods, dredge, high-banker, sluice, dry washer or metal detecting, we all have come across lead shot, lead projectiles, lead slugs, etc. Now I don't know what people do with them during clean outs, but I think maybe it would be a good idea to save and “stock pile” them for lead will surely go up soon as it about a buck a pound right now (12/23/2013).

What most people do not know is that there is only ONE, count 'em, ONE refineries in the United States that has the ability to take raw lead ore (Galena) and refine it to pure lead. This ONE company will cease to exist on December 31 of 2013 due to yeah, the EPA. Sure there are many “recyclers”, but when everything is used up, it has to be IMPORTED at a high cost, and what's more, any mining concern who mines lead ores will have to either ship it out of the country via rail or cargo ships at an even higher cost. In fact, I would bet that some of those lead mines will just shut down unless they can make it on their side metals, the little bit of gold and silver they get, but they will probably just stop mining altogether.

I can see the cost of a standard car battery that runs $75 now, be up to $150 or more in a year or two. If lead goes the way of Copper, I can see many a vehicle not starting in the morning when you need to go to work, due to thieves grabbing car batteries to recycle them.

Now the only things I can think of off hand for lead is lead/acid batteries, bullets, fishing sinkers, divers weights, etc.. I'm sure there's more applications that I am missing.

Bottom line, what would a 5 gallon pail of lead for recycling weigh out at and then go to 2 and 3 bucks a pound.

While your at it, keep the brass shells and cartridges. They all add up!

Prospecting question!

Hello everyone! I'm new here so pardon me for just jumping in with a random question. But if anyone knows about stuff like this I'm guessing you guys do! Here goes, I've never done hands on panning but have researched the heck out if it and think I am ready for hands on. I realize hands on is a lot different then reading but I've got to start sometime. I've double checked my maps and it is BLM land that I have my target spot, my question is will I get in trouble for panning placer deposits without a claim? Because lets face it, there may not even be a spec of gold and I could be way off! How does that work if I'm just testing the area? Thanks in advance for the help! Kelly

Snip The Easy Way With Sniper Buddy

hi all my fellow miners. I have a new sniping tool in the daily deals section. I hope you all take a look at it if you are into sniping. It works great and cuts down on the effort necessary to get good gold in your buckets. I have a special price for our members, and can deliver to california residents in the san jose to grass valley areas i travel up to do my mining weekly. all you need is a garden tractor battery and some weight to hold it on the bottom with you. it has a 30 foot cord and a switched 1100 gph pump. this is a really great tool to have in your tools.

Here are the rusults form one outing on the bear river. If you are looking for an Edge be sure to add this to your toolbox this year.

On to a great Adventure.

Well, I've been trying to move someplace cooler for my wife's health for over a year now and it's finally came to a decision that we've thought long and hard on. Come March of next year, we'll be moving our family to Ireland. I've read there's some gold there and I've seen pictures of some of the finds, nice compared to what we have in Texas. I plan on keeping in contact with the friends I've made here. And I'll post pictures of the gold I find in Ireland.

New Type of Dry Washer

I'm thinking of making a new type of dry washer.   Want your comments.

I've seen lots of vids of dry washers and seen several in person.  There seems to be two types out there right now.  The first is the puffer type that puffs air up through a tightly woven cloth to puff up the dirt to let the gold settle.  The second is basically the same puffer type with some vibration added.  The one problem they all seem to have is that they do not liquefy the dirt adequately enough.  The air puffs seem to break through the dirt in a small area leaving the rest undisturbed and the vibrations are not vigorous enough to liquefy the dirt.  The one I remember the most had the feed dirt flowing down the sluice over top a layer of undisturbed dirt trapped between the riffles.  Basically the top layer of dirt was just flowing over the lower layer not allowing the gold to drop into the riffles.

I have also watched several vids of dry panning, which is basically panning without water.  You shake the pan vigorously to liquefy the dirt, thus allowing the gold to settle.

So, what I am thinking is a regular metal sluice box with reverse riffles and V-matting, with a vibrator that will shake the sluice side to side, maybe a slight vertical vibration too.  The sluice would hang from chains to allow the side to side motion, with light springs to hold it in the middle of the supports.  It would be at a steep enough angle so that the vibration would cause the dirt to flow down the sluice, over the riffles and out the bottom.  As the dirt flows down the sluice the heavies would work their way to the bottom and get trapped in the riffles.

I would have to watch my feed rate so I don't overload the sluice causing the feed material to flow over a trapped layer of undisturbed layer like I have seen on too may puffer type dry washers.

Please give me your ideas, suggestions and comments.  If anyone knows of anything like what I am suggesting let me know too.  A web page or picture would be helpful if any exist.

Thanks, Keith

Going for Gold

Getting ready to take a 2 month camping prospecting trip to AZ, CA, and then north to pick up my dredge, the rules down south here are awesome.I,m looking for any info that would help me out and maybe give me a chance to meet fellow prospectors. I'm camping in a mini van and a tent. I'm not sure what gear I have for desert prospecting and appreciate any good advice. I will start my trip in N. South Carolina, GA, AL and will then head west to NM and onward. I like to comb prospecting shops for used equipment so if you know of good spots please let me know. Its my chance to follow a life long dream and I hope I can find some good gold on my travels. I would appreciate any info that you may think is helpful, maybe I'll get a chance to meet some of you.

Thanks
