While it's not that big, it's the first gold I've actually found...so I'm very happy with this find. I'd panned all morning and didn't find anything, but that afternoon, I took one bucket from the gold N sand and ran it through the Gold Miner....I'm no sold on the Gold Miner as a must have.

you go gary.before they had to give you the key to get access to the road now they just don't want you in or on woodlands
We had over 70 people at the outing, families, couples, singles, people of all ages, it was fantastic. And I actually found some Texas gold this time using my gold miner to process my gold Nsand hand pump, I'll post some pictures over the next few days....all in all a very good time.
a jim theres also a outting on th 21st of july at twin rivers campground.hope to see you all there.to bad we can't dredge at the campsite off the river anymore.
I'm going to Colorado in a few weeks and wanted to try my hand at prospecting. The place I'm going has a creek running through it and the owner said that in the past there has been gold panned out of the creek. About 7 miles of the creek runs through his property. I am thinking of getting a 6" power sluice from RDH (http://stores.rdh-prospecting.com/-strse-59/6%22-Power-Sluice-Setup/Detail.bok). Since I basically have no idea what I'm doing I could sure use some advice. Any suggestions.
Thanks,
Robbie
I am in the Myrtle Beach area, looking for gem hunters or metal detecting groups that i can join and learn more about the area.
The Round Rock GPAA chapter is having an outing on April 28th and 29th, I missed the previous one where they went to a new area that was dry wash only. so missed a good opportunity to try out my new metal detector. Will post pictures when I get back, hopefully since I'll have a buddy with me I'll be able to process my cons while on the river instead of months later....and with the metal detector I'm hoping to find some nice black sand deposits.
Well, I purchased some classifiers...I learned a valuable lesson....READ the entire ad...., I was under the impression that though they stacked into a neat stack that I was going to be able to use them with a bucket...and I can, but a VERY small bucket. The classifiers are about 7 inches across, they work great, don't get me wrong, it just takes a very long time to process a 5 gallon bucket of dirt. Now while I use the hand held pump dredge I don't get many big rocks in my concentrates, I do get some bigger pebbles that don't do so well in the gold miner. So I've been classifying them into finer cons, I was pleased that the gold miner found about another gram of gold I'd missed from my hand panning attempts. I processed and ran one 5 gallon bucket of cons from the Llano river and found plenty of blacksand but no color what so ever. I'm hoping this one will produce something, I spent about 45 minutes on my knees sucking up the back floor of an alcove that should've caught anything when the river was flowing at it's peak. Will post when I've finished running them and share any pictures of whats found.
Where to look to find gold
You will find gold in different spot in streams. Water is the primary agent in the creation of most placer deposits. Moving water can contain huge amounts of sentiment materials, by way of fine silt to large river rocks, especially in the course of run-off time periods. When freed from the particular mountain by means of weathering, gold is usually added to stream waters along with rock debris, and it is moved down by way of the stream. Where streams meander you can find gold, if it goes over falls you can find gold, or are deflected around rocks is good place to find gold, if a drop in water velocity takes place you can often times find gold, and the gold drops out there. Extended agitation by way of water causes gold to settle all the way down through the gravel right up until reaching bedrock or an impenetrable clay layer that is where you find gold nuggets. These concentrations are known as pay streaks that would be nice to find gold pay streaks.
Best chances to find gold
The best locations to uncover gold exist wherever turbulence change to slower-moving waters flow. Check out slower moving water down below rapids and waterfalls, deepened pools, and the downstream section involving big chunks of rock. On the inside turns of meanders, upstream ends with fine sand as well as 'point" bars are good locations for you to pan fine gold, which can be replaced each year during runoff. Bedrock crevices or pockets acting as natural riffles can accumulate gold. Scoop out there and pan material from these places. Spring, very early summer months, and just before freeze within the fall are wonderful points during the year to go panning. Water is low and gold-bearing rock is exposed which makes it easier to find gold. To lessen resource damage, restrict excavating to active, unvegetated stream gravels.
Tools you will need to find gold
The basic equipment is quite simple and requires only a minimum investment. A gold pan is most important. Metal pans were used by early prospectors; modem versions are plastic with built-in riffles. In a pinch, frying pans and even hub caps will work. New metal pans generally come with a coating of grease and should be cleaned thoroughly by heating over an open fire. The pan will rust, but some rust is beneficial for collecting fine gold and help find gold.
Suggested equipment to find gold.
- gold pan (plastic with riffles or metal); 14" size is best.
- shovel to loosen gravel from creek bottom.
- grizzly pan with 1/2-inch holes in bottom; this pan helps separate coarse gravel, speeding up the panning process.
- magnifying lens (at least 10X power) to identify minerals.
- sluice box, approximately 3 feet long; (construct or obtain commercially; aluminum version is available.)
- tweezers for picking up gold; a dry finger will also work.
- small magnet for separating out magnetic black sands.
- small glass vials to hold gold.
- rubber gloves to protect hands from cold water.
- rubber boots to keep feet dry while wading in creeks.
Good luck on you next trip to find gold it will pay off some day.

It's been a long day but worth it. It didn't take long to set up at where it got the best color.
I started gitting hits with my Infinium L/S about 4" to 6". Pulled it all out to the clay and ran it.
Moved large cobbles and over burden and stayed above the clay. Went strait in to the bank.
I'am going back again tomorrow. I'am going to see if i can get permission to go up stream. So i'll keep you posted.
Someone had posted this link on the only other forum I belong to, he called it "People are great", I call it "People are out-of-their-minds", but it is great to watch!.......https://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=EEu42L0ufBY.....Enjoi!
After finding the Township, Range, and Meridian, I would like to file a Claim. Can some one tell me how to go about this step by step ? Who to Call ? What papers to file ? a time line, and Prices ? What is testing ? How meny people can File in a section ? Thank you.
About six months ago I found a small piece of brass in my sluice box after a close inspection discovered it to be a single tooth from a zipper. I have thrown this tooth back in to my tailing bucket at the house and as its a habit of mine back too the creek I use this bucket as the first down the sluice to test flow when I set up and to catch any missed gold from the last panning. this small brass tooth has made dozens of laps through the Sluice. Last weekend I didn't take that bucket so imagaine my suprise to pan out a second zipper tooth this one seems to be heavier in copper (the color is different annd slightly larger !!!!!!!!!!! So what Have you found in your Sluice ????
I bought a new wooden box from the same people I got the gold miner from, on the front of the wooden box it says, "How the West was Won" with a pick and shovel crossed over a gold pan.
Well I ran the concentrates from previous bags that I'd hand panned twice and the gold miner found more that I'd missed, so that was pretty impressive. I ran a bucket that I'd gotten out of the Llano river and didn't find anything other than blacksand. Not that I was surprised with this, the ones that actually have found anything in the Llano used dredges. but the gold miner did as advertised and ran the concentrates quickly. Was it as fun as swishing dirt around in my pan and catching that first glimpse of gold color? No, not really, but it did save my back and shoulders from being hunched over the pan for several hours.
If you have to hike back into a spot for prospecting what are the necessary tools you would take with you? Keep in mind you want to keep your pack as light as possible and no ATV use allowed.
I would take my small sluice, folding shovel, crevice tools, pan and classifier, a small bucket, first aid kit, and an emergency survival kit.
So I had it all set up to get out today with another member on this site. The weather was saying 40's and slight chance of snow so we were all for going. Fast forward to this morning and I get up let the dog out to see 3 inches of new snow and still snowing like crazy. The news flash said winter storm watch with an expected 4-6 inches of snow in the valleys for today and 14-24 inches of snow in the mountains. That would make it about 3 feet of new snow from last night and today where my spot is located. Maybe I'll wait till June :)
