July/August Gold Prospectors Magazine

Got my July/ August issue today, and was bowled over about the story of the Malpais here in New Mexico, I live just a few miles away from there, and now I want a metal detector even worse than before!!!

Evidently, lots of loot from days gone by was stashed there, never to be re claimed(not for lack of trying, I guess) and the terrain is pretty treacherous, being in a masive lava flow from thousands of years ago. I can't help but wonder if anything can be found in the Zunis near here, I mean, it's practically on the Continental Divide.

MMMM,....Tomatoes, my 2nd Hobby

Last month, I planted several tomato plants, which are growing pretty nicely right now. It seems that besides saplings, and Cactus plants, I also have a Green Thumb for growing tomatoes.

I tried to grow watermelons, and cucumbers up in South Dakota a few years back, and had some luck with them one year, but somehow, lost the touch. But tomatoes, and cactus are my speciality, when it comes to plants.

I particularly, love growing the cherry tomato, it seems to grow in any climate, and the plant usually can withstand temperatures as low as 35 degrees, before any damage occurs, and can grow even in the hottest regions.

When they are ripe, I love taking a few right off the plant, and munching on them, straight up.

I should see a few good tomatoes sometime either in mid, to late July, and more soon thereafter, I'm hoping for a good crop.

Ramblings of a Indiana Prospoector

I am a self proclaimed Lost Prospector. I hunt Indiana's Central Areas. I mostly follow the advice of my fellow gold hounds. My spots are not original to me, just robbed from a passing conversation or a occassional "Man you got to try this spot." moment. I have little experience (1 1/2 years)own a 3" dredge(with air), a mini highbanker, various sluices and 14 pans. I wonder why I have 14 pans? Have you ever wondered why we need so many pans? Here in Indiana we have three GPAA chapters that I have many friends in. So no one can be with out a group close by. For a state with so little gold(no viens) we have a strong GPAA core. Hope to get out this week. My cabin fever is getting unbearable, after four days in I need three out to balance my sense of self.

gold in mi.

yes there is gold in mi.. dont take this the wrong way but most prospectors i've met go for the e-z spots. i've found that in mi. you have to dredge, dredge hard, and the gold is in the fast water on a bend. lol your body will hurt the next day. lol you can wear as much lead as you want but your arms still have to fight the curent. but unlike highbanking in mi.. you will not be shaking your head in shame at the end of the day. dont forget to look for a 9-24" band of red dirt thats the good stuff.

5 am in the morning!

Hello friends,

Still here at Loud mine, Ga. and its too early for me to be up. But I am . For some reason cant wait for daylight and get back to playing in the dirt. Gold finding has been very slim here. So far small stuff and few flakes. There is gold here if ya can find it, just got to work for it.

I have been tumbling rocks left & right. It doesnt matter to me what rock I tumble, if its pretty or strikes my eye..."plop" yer in there.

We plan to be heading to Vein Mtn, NC soon and attend the May outing. Hope to meet up with new & old friends there.

So here is to all that takes the time to read these.....May your pans be heavy and God Bless!!!!

Another Great Arizona Trip!

Well, my spring prospecting season is coming to an end here in Congress, and I’ll be flying back to White Plains, early Thursday morning. As usual, I have made many new acquaintances this time out, and was able to hang with a lot of old friends and poker buddies at the Arrowhead, Nichole’s West, The Frog Rock Café, The Country Corner, the American Legion Post (79) in Yarnell, out in Stanton, and on the claims.

I’ll leave Arizona with just over an ounce of gold, a 121-gram Gold Basin meteorite, and a poke full of great memories, laughs, and even a few scares. It was great meeting Casey Stern, from Tesoro in Prescott, videotaping a drywashing class with Bret Chilcott, of AZ Desert Gold, meeting Rob Allison (thanks again for dinner you sneaky so-and-so!), and Ruby & Clay from FootPrints!

This has been a great year already, and our school’s prospecting instructors will stay very busy right through the end of May. We’ll be headed up to Alaska in July, and I hope to meet some of you up there. If you can’t get up North this summer, in the fall I will host a big prospector’s party in Congress, and you will all be invited!

I’ll see you back on the forum in a few days when I get caught up with the beautiful woman who is kind enough to let me disappear for seven-weeks at a time with a sweet smile, a honey-lipped kiss, and the words “hurry home.”

Cheers! – Terry Soloman
