Randsberg Calif. Oktoberfest

Leone and I went out on our first prospecting trip to Randsberg Calif. on a Three Day Camping Prospecting trip to the California Desert Dry-washing. This Event was put together by the Temecula Valley Prospectors and Sleepy Bear Mining Co. We showed up at 9am for check in, then set up Camp by 11. and was Off Digging a yard out of a 20' Mound before Test Panning! lol, No Gold and No Black Sand ? Now were Off Pot-Holing The Other Mounds for black sands, nope ?? Day #2  Morning we went to talk to other prospectors and came up with the conclusion to Prospect the Flats. So now We are Off Test Panning 2 Foot Holes in the Desert. lol, Found some Calichie and Processed the Upper layers with Test Panning and Nope. Everything Showed Minimal Blacks All Day Rrrr, Day #3 It's 4am I'm off to Inspect this WWII Claim of Dump Piles, Started walking the Ravine looking at the Piles from the Inside I came up with the Conclusion they were placed there by Conveyor Belt, this means there "Processed Dumps" So I Walk down stream, Over, and Through, this Ravine looking for Old Drywash tailings, When I Found a Cut in the Wall showing "Old River Kobble"  :D  so I went Back to Camp and We Packed up the Tools and off  !!  Leone and I Processed 1/2 yard now with Pick Axes at the side of this Wall and test Panned, this Time its showing Big Black's with Un-Rounded edges :D so We are Off Digging in Old River Bed Collecting Cons with the thought of Heavies. We worked the Hole Day and Collected a Bucket of Con's and a Bucket of Tailing Con's. :) ""Story Starts at The Bottom of the Page"" click like if Ya Like it 10493351053?profile=original

Many years ago I made a scale to measure specific gravity.  I was actually entertaining the idea of building them (nice stainless steel ones), but I came across a site that makes it SO simple, and SO cheap to do, and it's fairly accurate!

To  test out this method, I used a 1959 quarter.  Had some wear but not nearly enough to effect the outcome.   A silver US quarter weighs 6.25 grams.  My electronic scale only has 10ths so it dropped the 5 and got 6.2 grams.  Now when I weighed it under water it weighed out at .6 grams.   6.2 grams divided by .6 grams equals 10.33 SG.    Silver SG (pure) is 10.49.   Close enough considering the coin is 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper.

Using SG is also a good way to certify coins as real and not "fake" alloy that is silver or gold plated.

Sabbatical

Well, Ireland has been an adventure. But after 7 months of not finding the mother lode, winning lotto ticket, or a job, we've decided to call the little adventure a sabbatical. On October 13th we will be leaving Ireland and moving to Seattle, Washington where I will start a new job with University of Washington. I am sad that Ireland didn't work out, and that I never could find a good place to pan for gold here, but we are very excited with this next move and I'm looking forward to joining a couple of the gold prospecting groups in that area, they seem to have a lot of claims that are owned by the groups. If you're in the Seattle area, or know someone, give a shout out. Always looking for new friends to hunt for color or metal detect.

Gold Well sluice

I purchased a Gold Well sluice. Took it to our claims up in the Yukon. It worked very well! I would buy it again. Easiest clean up since it has no matting to wash out. I bought the 6 inch by 36 inch model. Very well constructed.

PLP fundraising

This email was sent to me from PLP, asking for donations to continue their fight against the dredging ban in California. Just to be safe, I went to the web page to make my donation. Message follows:

Dear Friends and Family,

I am reaching out to you because Public Lands for the People needs your HELP Desperately. The Court Case in California regarding the Anti-Dredging Law is still continuing. Funds are running VERY low. Without funds to pay the lawyers, we will lose the case by default. The State and the Kuruks seem to have unlimited funds and they keep causing the case to be dragged out further and further. Won't you PLEASE consider sending another DONATION or if you haven't donated before, send your DONATION NOW??

Clicking the link below will take you to a secure donation page that will allow you to donate, write a personalized message or to join my team and help me raise money by sending out appeals and sharing.

PLEASE SHARE THIS LINK TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY SO WE CAN REACH OUR STATED GOAL AND CONTINUE TO FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS!!

If you cannot make a contribution, it would be very appreciated if you could still go to the page and share it on Facebook and Twitter.

THANK YOU!

Mining all summer as a job.

I lucked into a summer job to die for. I get to watch a claim and mine gold for free. so far it has been fun but I am getting tired and still have to move another 20 yards to hope to get total a 1/4 OZ. for the summer. I did pop a three grain nugget with my metal detector. I have to drain my high banker pump each night for now it is starting to freeze at night, elev. 7500 feet, and yes it is in the mountains, it is a public place to mine gold for a fee. That is why I am needed to watch the claim, to make sure everyone has bought a pass to dig. Fee is $20.00 for the weekend or 40 for the week. I have almost got 1/4 OZ. in 11 hours so you see you could make money on the gold you mine there. So where is this place? In Utah, Millard county , House range, in the Amasa valley. The claim is one square mile or one full survey section of land. How can this be? It is a section of land belonging to the state which is allotted to the school district. It comes up for bid every ten years, and is a seal bid. This is why the pay to dig comes into it, my boss has to pay the state fees every year of $640 ( dollar an acre ) and 4% of the passes he sells.  So who wants to dig gold before the snow fly's? I was FINALLY able to put this on video in a way I think ALL can understand, and practice.
A SIMPLE way to clean your final cons and get 99% pure gold, removing black sands.
What you can't really see in the video is that there is a ton of -50 mesh and 100 mesh gold.
The smaller the gold the easier it is to do this.

Things to remember....

1- "Slam on the brakes", let the inertia do the work.
2- Hot water and a little Jet Dry.
3- Tap only when gold is underwater.
4- Make "green space".
5- Do a few tablespoons at a time.

Once you perfect this method, clean up of super cons is VERY quick.
I did upload in HD if you want to watch full screen.

Some Cool Testing Footage

Just some cool footage around the 3 min mark.

Underwater view of riffles, grooves, etc on our new Talon mat.

Love to see the heavies hang around.

Keep in mind we were TRYING to blow out the mat on that run. It was a hyper velocity run.
