  • big reason i dont belong to the gpaa or the ldma

    • I hear that, and more reason for me now to TRY and find a claim or two here in AZ that aren't already under claim by some BIG BUCKS foreign mining company, or Out of State claimants, who have the claims to use during the winter months when they come here to escape the winter weather,  OR for whatever other purpose.  The GPAA used to be a GREAT organization, and CAN STILL get back to BEING a GREAT organization, IF "THEY" will take the time to REGROUP, REORGANIZE, and GET BACK ON TRACK!!!  WE NEED the GPAA and OTHER Mining Legislative Organizations to be there to FIGHT FOR OUR MINING RIGHTS, since the government doesn't want mining properties open to small scale mining - the reason is quite evident - the government doesn't MAKE any money from small scale mining, like they DO with large scale mining company operations, who can afford to mine TONS of material per day, and have the machinery to do it.  If for no other reason, ALL SMALL SCALE MINERS need to become members of the GPAA,  so that THE GPAA HAS OUR FULL SUPPORT to help keep SMALL SCALE MINING OPEN for generations to come!!!  After all, do WE have the TIME or MILLIONS of dollars to FIGHT the government for OUR RIGHTS???  RIGHTS that we SHOULDN'T HAVE to be FIGHTING TO KEEP!!!   If our present government was HONEST, we wouldn't HAVE to be fighting for ANYTHING, since an HONEST government KNOWS the difference between RIGHTS and PRIVILEGES!!!

  • I am still waiting for my 2012 ID cards to be sent. The office and the way it is being run is going down hill in a fast matter. too much nepotism envolved in the main office with tom and his relatives running things.

    • It's more than apparent the GPAA main office needs ALOT more help, and EXPERIENCED HELP would be that much BETTER!!!  I was promised via an email reply I received back from the GPAA main office, to have my cards sent out a month or so ago,  so they aren't much at holding true to promises they make, which doesn't set well for an organization we NEED to TRUST without fail or question.  I DID however receive a reply back just days ago, in confirmation to an address change request I made via the GPAA site, and a VERY short and unfriendly reply it was I must say "THE ADDRESS CHANGE HAS BEEN MADE".   It looks like by the time we receive our cards and the NEW 2012 Mining Guides, it's going to be 2013 OR VERY close to it, and by then the 2012 cards won't possibly be needed - we'll be needing 2013 cards!!!  The GPAA truly IS slipping rapidly from the way they USED TO operate, and what makes this a travesty, is that WE MINERS NEED this organization to help KEEP our mining rights freedoms, and if they can't get Mining Guides and Membership/Permit cards out on time,  HOW are they able to keep up with all of the Mining Legalities?   They NEED TO HIRE MORE HELP that KNOW what they're doing!!!

  • Well,  looks like my good report about my experience last Saturday with GPAA Customer Service was a bit premature, since it's now Thursday the 19th of April, and my GPAA cards still haven't arrived as I was pretty much promised by the customer service rep, who sent me the email stating they would be IN THE MAIL ASAP!!!  Unless the Postal Service in California is presently ON STRIKE,  or the Postal Service has enlisted the help of camels and desert tortoises to ship mail from California to Arizona, my cards weren't sent out as I was told, so I'm once again an unhappy camper with the GPAA main office.   If there's one thing I dislike the most, it's being told falsehoods by people I trust - after all, we all get more than enough of that by our own government officials, who we SHOULD be able to trust without question.  SO, as I was also told, I'll continue to use my last years Gold Life Membership Mining Permit, until my new 2012 permit arrives, IF it arrives!!!

    • Gerald I renewed my GPAA membership last thursday and got all back within 7 days counting sunday. are you sure they have your correct address? Don't know what to tell you. If you are planning on using there claims i'd just go ahead and use them. Any one question you have them call the office

  • Gerald I'm not sure what gps you have but the gpaa claims are done to usgs 7 1/2 min scale. so a reading of 43.881930N ,-103.678718W would show on guide as 43.8N,103.6W  does that help?

    • Hi Dennis and thanks for your response!!!  My GPS unit is a Garmin GPSmap 60CSx, and shows coordinates as follows ie:  N 33 degrees 53.533' and W 112 degrees 35.577' etc...,  so in order for me to get an exact reading, I need to always convert the feet decimal value to inches, since the latest mining guide that I was issued, shows the claims coordinates as follows ie:  33 degrees 50' 54.08" N and 114 degrees 2' 40.13" W.  WHY there are so many INCHES is where my confusion comes in, since for example,  54.08" adds more footage, and needs to be converted to feet, then that sum is then added back to the 50 feet, in order for me to be able to know what reading I should have on my GPS for that exact location.  54.08" is like another 4'+, which then makes the coordinate 33 degrees 54.88'.  Why these coordinates aren't stated in the guides to directly relate to current GPS unit readouts is my concern and question - makes no sense whatsoever why there are so many inches in the given guide coordinates that amount to MORE FEET.  Is there ANY reason for the coordinates to be stated with ALOT of inches that add more footage to the coordinate?  To me it's more than weird, and must be some sort of geographical or whatever kind of explanation for it.  All I do know, is that it's a real pain having an expensive GPS, that I have to do calculations in order to be able to read EXACT coordinates with it, each and every time I visit a new claim location.  This is an area that should be standardized, so there aren't any questions about coordinates or coordinates readings - making a mistake about where you are out there in the goldfields can be quite disasterous, if not downright fatal if you find yourself on someone elses claim by mistake, due to an erroneous GPS coordinate reading, and the claim owner isn't civil about it.  Thanks again Dennis for your response - unfortunately my guide doesn't show the GPS coordinates the same as yours.
