Ok so I got some dirt from a buddy in Cali and found a large 2.78 gram nugg but when drying it with the other gold in a pan on the stove the nugget changed from a beauty to ugly with a weird kinda powdery surface that I could easily scrape off it didn't change the weight but changed the look a lot anyone know what's going on here?? Here are before an after pics
I agree with Ken. It is probably a sulfide coating. Sulfides will "cook off" at around 800 degrees F, so when you heated it, it left a sulfide coating.

Will that be better than the salt and vinegar mix tht I use I just leave it in a jar half full of salt and vinegar and shake the hell out of it every once in a while for a few days
Did a acid test on it and it holds strong at 22k I don't have the ability to test higher than that but at least I know my buddy wasn't trying to fool me with a really good fake nugget lol
