  • Ahhh, Tear Drop Camper - I had one a long time ago and had more fun with that thing. Pulled it behind a Harley Motorcycle to. Built mine from Plans out of a 1950 Popular Mechanincs magazine and started with a boat trailer. Modified the trailer by adding some beams and widening the axel some, used oak for the frame and covered it with alumium sheet metal (0,032), put in three oval pleixglass windows. It's a small camper but it can be comfortable, like tent camping with out having to put the tent up. LOVED that thing. Anyway, there are many web sites with plans now days, fairly easy to build and can be modified for length and width, just don't over do it.

So far everyones been nice but each time I mention about not knowing how to post photos
knowone has said how to do it. This my first experiance on this type of forum and I don't really
know how to get around yet. Sorry
I found teardrop on ebay and made a couple changs to get 5 day Coleman cooler into the back.
Had to take 5" from matress area to get the cooler in deep enough to close hatch. Have 7 gal.
water jug , propane stove uses small fat tanks can be placed on picnic table.
Pots ,pan, plates, cups ,glasses always packed. In the shelves above feet over queen air matress is 7
days of under clothes and a few seasonal shirts pants and the wifes stuff. Always packed year round. I added a shelf across the back under the hatch with hinged door to keep containers of:

Coffee Rice Oats PintoBeans Sugar Ect. always packed. Spray Pam Olive oil .

If we get a wild hair or go see friends with no spare space we take the tear drop.
Its approx. 66" in side x queen length ? built with 4'x8' walls before curves .

Its comfortable for two easy to set up can haul your suit cases and anything else ot of the rain on trips .
To build one you would need to have good carpenter skills to understand how to seal water out
but If I had had a place to work I would have built my owen.
A lot of people when L search Teardrop plans built thiers on a 4x8 Harber Frieght trailor frame.
I found out it averages 5-7 months to build one and nearly $2000.00 of material.
So when I got mine for $1475.00 on Ebay I thought it a was a deal.
The guy had it on Ebay the year before and turned down $3200.00 offer .
Glad I didn't se it then.
How do you sent photos on this thing?

Mike hope you find this interisting and helpfull.

      • Hey Tim G, Can't you help this guy figure out how to post photos? I'd like to know, myself.
  • I did a lot of research, and was ready to build a teardrop until my wife and I saw one in person. We realized we were to old, and to big to survive in one of those. At the RV shows they now have small box lightweight camper for $4995.00 that offer more for the money and time you will spend making a teardrop trailer. Even a small tent trailer will probably serve you better. All your large RV places keep one on the floor for a reality check.

Not sure what key I hit but I could talk to you on the phone faster than I can type.
Tried to use the Send Message to give you my number but you need to approve it I guess.
Could send pictures if I figure out how.

    • Hey Mike, if you still haven't figured out how to add photos, it should be like this: Go to your "My Page" section and on the left hand side about half way down, you will see "Photos". Click on that and you should be able to upload your photos from your computer. There is also a way to upload from your phone where you send them to yourself on Goldprospectorsspace.
  • here's a company in so. cal they have kits also www.socalteardrops.com/index.html
  • Never built one, but sure have thought about it. Lots of stuff on the web, you just have to search. There are some dedicated build it yourself sites that have pictures to help you decide what you like and don't like. Ive never seen a site that will actually give you dimensions though. That's up to you and from what I can tell, the best part of a teardrop. With the design up to you there are no two alike! Have fun and post some pics if you do decide to build.
