Sluice box mesh/riffles

Good morning all, all morning. I have a question that i think can be answered here because i have found that i do not like to use my sluice while i am out in the wilds of the world. It has the dream mat middle one think its above the micro size. Anyways what i would like to know and or discuss about is the type of mesh, grate or riffles that everyone uses while outside prospecting.

What i want to know is what is the best kind of mesh to use? Can i get away without using riffles if the mesh creates the eddys ?

The picture underneath is of the mesh i want to use or thinking about. I want a Keene a52 sluice but not paying $100 just to ship it before import tax and i understand that the a52 seems to be one of the better sluices to use for everything that doesn't invovle cleaning up black sands. I would take the concentrates away at the end anyway i have been thinking about cutting up some fence i found like below as it looks like they have riffles in every hole with its shape.

What do y'all ( lol ) think ? I also added a picture of my current sluice that will be having the changes done to it. currently it has ribbed matting, gold hog mat and dream mat on it but that's it and i feel it doesn't catch much at all

  • In my opinion thats a banger set up. I find when i classify down to the size of gold im realisticly finding and set my sluice up to run slow as possible without plugging up the better. Such as hald inch for chunky gold and a large box and ran faster, 1/4" or smaller in a smaller box and ran slow

    • Since posting this I have since gotten myself a drop riffle sluice called a Caledonian super sluice and it became something I now take every time and light enough to carry. It is quite bulky but attaches to my bag easy enough. I always use a Garrett classifier which I think is 1/4 inch and I do like to run my new sluice slow but the guy who made it told me it can take unclassified shovels if ran fast 9730471485?profile=RESIZE_710x

  • i would be  useing a whole difference set up in the box

    • Thats the plan, I have only used this once or twice and have not really found it to work correctly but the guy i bought it from is the guy who makes the "pirate dredgers " dredges ( allegedly ).

I want to change it so i can use it out in the wilds Ken this is probably only good for the at home clean up if anything. You see it costs $150 for a Keene a52 sluice which is the one i want but it is $90 to ship it and that doesn't include the import tax the postman wants when it finally makes it to my door haha.

Got miners moss ordered and on its way but what do you think about this for the mesh and would i need some riffles on top ?

Hope your well Ken thanks for replying back
