Reading Maps

I am brand new to mining and one of the things I would like some help on is reading maps and images to identify good areas to prospect.  I got on Google Earth and took an aerial photo of the claim.  Inside the black box on this image is the section of the creek as it goes through this valley in the mountains.  Can someone with experience in using images to locate a good starting point tell me where they would start on this claim and why so I can learn?  Thanks in advance.

  • I'd look where other streams or draws enter the main stream or canyon. ( lower left corner and upper right corner of black box.)

These points of convergence are usually a good place to start.

  • Tony the area in the upper left corner looks alot like the areas around here that got washedout Hydraulicallyif not than natural errosion has done this any of the floor bedrock catches and holds  the gold if there are bedrock pockets and crevases thats where I would start and rember if you find gold KEPP DIGGING !!!

  • Hey - thanks for the replies guys.  I'm going to drop camp this one this weekend and see what the land looks like.  This is a pretty remote location - funny how nice the roads on the ridgeline look from the air when in reality, it's a nasty one.

  • A good place to start would be down stream of a load mine. I have some links on 'my gps. page' one lets you know what was found and where. find a local club and dig for someone else for a few days to pick there brain nothing like hands on with someone that works the area
