this is what i use in gravel pits to get rid of the bigger rocks buckets can be filled in less then a minit works with eather dry or damp material can be folded so it lays flat and can be adjusted to any angle
Jay; I had a friend that I suggested this to and he found a gravel co. that screened their product to different sizes. He discovered a few piles of black sands that they had discarded on the side and they told him to help himself to it. Of course he didn't tell them what for, only that he wanted to use it for cover material. Well, now I can't get him to go to the creeks. He does pretty good with panning these cons and they were free! I don't know how well or how much but it's a possibility if the gravel they dig is gold bearing. Most of the gravel from this area in Washingston state from the west side of the cascade mtns are from very old glacier deposits or from gravel removal programs in rivers and streams for flood control programs. If you have these programs in your area ( check the county dumping areas ), you might be onto something. Good luck!
Phil that sounds amazing! To think a a group of people in the business of profit just set their black sands aside- it's enough to make creek panners drool!
Thanks Phil, I am in indiana and most of the gravel pits around my part of the state are in valleys and adjacent to small streams.
They all contain glacial till material made mostly of rock types that were brought down by the glacier. I am looking forward to taking some samples real soon.
I'm thinking, why dig in the shallow stream if someone has already dug out the glory hole and classified it for you.
besides I need about two dump trucks full of river gravel to lay down a base for my driveway. When they brought a load last summer, it was still wet from digging it out of the pit. Id like to run some of that or go to the gravel pit and inquire about fine sands.
By the way, I lived in Key Center near Tacoma for about a year and loved it out there.

I've got a 3 acre gravel pit on my farm and a HUGE gravel pit 3 miles north of my farm here in West Texas....about
20 miles south of Pecos, Texas .
What's the best way to screen gravel and the overflow from conveyors in a gravel pit? Mine had a cement batch
plant in it and still has the earthen ramp where they filled the concrete mixer trucks.

rod i am just out of idaho falls gravel pits are along the snake river
