Now, I get to Play!

Headin' out to the claim for the first time this year. Snow has finally melted and lettin' me get in.

Was the second week of June last year before I could get in due to such heavy Winter snows.

Gonna get cabin and equipment set up for week long stays.

I know there are going to be downed trees to clear from the road, there always are. I really don't mind it though, at least I know that no body else has been there. I like my privacy.

  • Gonna head back out in the morn, so I won't be back on here 'til next Fri. or Sat.

Hope y'all have a great week!

    • Take it slow and be safe. I'm expecting you to blind me with your new pics. Good luck.

      • Dang, got snowed out last night. A rather cooool night in the ol' cabin. LOL

Gonna try again next Mon. since another storm expected this week.

  • UPDATE,.....

    • Very Nice! Yes I need the pics. The whole staying at home with leg up is getting old. But you could send me some cons. Just pour that back in the cons and I will let you know if I got it all back out LOL!

      • I hate for ya to do "busy work", I wouldn't make you repeat the same task. Ya only need to drive a nail once. LOL

  • Hoping that blows over by morning Steel and maybe tomorrow the sun come out !

    • Not concerned, I won''t go back up 'til Mon.

The storm and the snow will be gone and we'll be at it.

Sure is nice to be back out in God's country again.

  • Everything was goin' fine until this morning, it started to snow in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

My panning station before the snow,....

Then it started with what I call "popcorn" snow,...

....and it began to pile up.

Here's a shot as we left the cabin. By the time we got out to the paved road there was over 3 inches.

The differance between a "prospector" and a "miner" is,....

...a miner will scoop the snow out of his pan to see the Gold laden black sand.

When it filled faster than I could clean it out, I finally had to stop. LOL

This is what we are working,...note the bank of bedrock that the stream has eaten into, thus it mad a trough and we are cleaning it out. The band/vein is not quartz, it's of a different density than the other rock and both appear to be metamorphic sedimentary. Metasedimentary. ALHOUGH, on an opposite side of the stream, and appearing to be a continuance of the same bedrock is a basalt flow. The bedrock within the stream is soft to a point of acting almost like clay. This kinda perplexes me. Water affecting the overall density of basalt? Hmmmm,....

    ...a little closer shot.

As we work up the stream I'm anticipating a contact zone where the basalt of above, laying on top of, a metasedimentary layer.  If so, it would be interesting to see what is between the two.

  • Roger - when you say "NC EPA," are you meaning NCDENR???  Thanks
