Newbie almost ready to get started

Hi, Anyone around here from south-west Va.? I live 30 min.  south of Roanoke , beside the Blueridge Parkway. I'm getting tired of practiceing panning in the basement. I 'll be glad when i have everything together and get to try my panning . Anticipation is building for that first trip!

  • Ive been prospecting for just over a year and i can tell you 1 thing for sure is, the pan is cool at first but it gets tedious and its slow. I bought a keen a52 and a jobe foldup sluice and both work well and you can move a lot more material than panning. That being said they have to be set properly and the flow has to be right, personally i like the roll up sluice and the one i made using an old truck bedliner they are much more forgiving and they both work very well. Now dont go and buy the roll up sluice do it yourself get some 4" corrugated pipe and a heat gun cut a slice down one side and heat the bottom slowly and start to open it up as it cools it will start to hold its shape. Be patient and take your time do not over heat. Check out mygoldpanning .com he has a video of it but dont buy it he charges like 70$ for it  a 12' length only costs about 8$ or u can get a sheet of aluminum and a bedliner a little silicone and ur in business good luck and if you have any questions hit me up and ill get back to you asap
