Earlier this summer I had the chance to use a Gold N Sand hand dredge owned by  APerfectCureMT at his claim. Earlier in the summer we had broke up some cracks in the creek and thought we would give it a try. I had a good time using it cleaning the cracks in the bedrock on his claim. He said that enough gold was recovered in the cracks that he paid for the Gold N Sand the first time out. So this had me thinking for some time that I really wanted one of these. Long story short I was lucky enough to be approved to be a dealer for Gold N Sand hand dredge in my store. I placed my order and anxiously waited for my delivery. I was surprised how fast the order was processed and shipped. It arrived within a couple days. So a few weeks ago a friend and I went to a new prospecting hole to see just how well I could make this new tool work. I decided I wanted to fill a 5 gallon bucket only from the Gold N Sand. John (new to prospecting) and Kyle (just came out to see how this prospecting habit works) worked a area digging and classifying and filling buckets with their shovel. I filled the attached 3 gallon bucket a little less than half full a couple times and emptied that into a 5 gallon bucket. It took me as long to fill 1 5 gallon bucket with about 4 gallons of material as it took 2 guys to fill 3 5 gallon buckets classified with a 12 mesh screen. So I feel that it worked better than expected for speed. While I was using the hand dredge a couple times I plugged the intake with rocks. But it was just a matter of lifting the inlet out of the water and the plug would release and I could pump the handle again. There was a fallen tree that appeared to have been in the creek for many years. The main flow of the creek creek ran under part of the tree. I was able to easily reach under the tree and remove material using the Gold N Sand. By the time I finished filling my bucket I was gaining confidence in the Gold N Sand.

Fast forward 8 days later when I finally got enough time to run the material and see if I was able to recover any gold using the Gold N Sand. I decided to use my Gold Cube and classified everything to a 12 mesh. When I finished my classifying I was very surprised to find that I had a LOT of very fine sand and black material. I had wondered how fine of a material the Gold N Sand would dredge and I am very happy to see it holds onto the fine stuff.  I ran all the -12 mesh material through the Gold Cube. When I finished I cleaned everything up in my mason trays and wound up with about 1/2 cup of material from the cube. I panned this down and wound up with a couple table spoons of black material. I very carefully panned the black material and was totally shocked to see I had gold. I might only have 20 or so flakes of very fine gold but heck I wasn’t even sure there was gold in this new area. I just wanted to see how well the hand dredge worked for me.  Not to mention I was NOT working on bedrock. This material was taken from the main channel of a small 3 foot wide creek and just removed from the surface of the creek bed.

My final thoughts. For $99 plus S&H this tool is going to be one of the top of the tool box tools. A well-built tool and best of all, it is easy to use.

Here are a few pictures that I took along the way

Here is my set up in my basement. As you can see in the bucket is the material I brought home. I was running this through the 12 mesh screen into my mason tray. Had the Gold Cube set up and ready to run

Here is the material that was being stopped in the 12 mesh screen. As you can see it does pick up the medium size stones too.

As you can see here this is my -12 material. So it does a great job with small sands

Here I am feeding the Gold Cube. Have I told anyone this is the BEST CLEANUP TOOL I have bought for prospecting?

Here I am cleaning one of the Gold Cube trays in my masons tray

Poor picture but you can kind of see the flakes

Here is the GOld N Sand Hand Dredge. A tool well worth it's money in my opinion.

My neighbor Dave and I went out around Christmas and cleaned out about 1;2 of a 40 foot culvert using the Gold N Sand dredge. After cleanup I only recovered a couple of flakes of gold. So no pictures of that trip.

Keep posted as I have results from the 3rd trip using the Gold N Sand dredge. I went out on my own after no one had the guts to go on a cold day. I recovered some very nice bigger chunky flakes. Some of the biggest I have recovered. Not a lot of weight but color no the less. As soon as I can get a picture I will post up trip 3 finds.

Thank you everyone

Maurice

  • Great review Maurice, I enjoyed it. Might I ask what type of "pellet burner" you have?

    • Hi Bucket Thank you, It is a Breckwell Big E. I have been very happy with it. It heats a 3100 sqft house very easy. I get about 1.5 days out of a bag and the hopper holds 3 full bags.

      • I've been eyeballing some pellet burners lately and saw the bags of pellets in your photo's. The Big E  has come up several times  in my searches and on forums related to stoves and it always comes up with great reviews. I've got a wood burner but the whole cutting, chopping, hauling, thing is getting old not to mention all the crap you drag into the house along with the wood, I guess the pellets run about 6 bucks average a bag, I've seen em cheaper and I've seen em costing more for a 40lb bag. I think I will shoot for a pellet burner for next winter.

  • The Gold Fever show used the Gold N Sand Hand Dredge on todays show. They recovered some nice pickers!

  • ok here is some pictures from the 3rd trip. I was alone and only filled the 3 gallon bucket and left. To dang cold for this fat old guy. Not to mention I much rather do prospecting with others. I did take my big spud bar along and move some pretty good sized rocks that fell from the boulder protruding out of the mountain.
