    • hi sandra

there are a lot of good videos out there.  the prospectors channel . com is one.  my advice is start slow,

don't but any equipment until you can pan real good. then before you buy try and find someone with that

equipment and see how it works. gold and treasure shows are good for that. i live in montana and have a

hard rock claim and 2 placer claims . my wife will work the placer claims but not to keen on the hard rock.

i've been mining for about 10 yrs.

    • Thanks,Sandra !!!!

      • well sandra i got stated being interested in gold prospecting a few years back from watching gold prospecting on tv . the discovery channel had a few shows on prospecting and the outdoor channel also had gold shows every week . i finnally ordered myself a gold prospecting kit from garret prospecting off the internet. it took some time seaching the internet and watching videos. i looked around my area for a creek to try my luck looking for gold. i finnally found my first specks of gold in a crevise in bedrock in the creek not far from my home.i was bitten by the infamous gold bug and been looking since. if you go to my page on the main page under members you can see pics of the creek i prospect in. there is alot of bedrock in the creek.i still use my kit from garrett, but now i also have a drop riffle sluice box .

  • There's two ways to learn. Like I did and the smart way....join a club and tap into collective years of knowledge and experience right off the bat.  GPAA gives you a pan to get started.  The little sluice like HurtHawk uses a lot is $32 to your door. then add some plastic buckets a shovel, classifier screen and some crevice tools. those last ones you can scavenge from salvation army or garage sales on the cheap. Then get out there with the club and do it. Doesnt take very big nuggets to get hooked for life. One last thing. your back may feel a little beat up till you build the right kind of muscle up. Thats normal. It goes away. Those peel and stick medicated pads will get you through the tough part till your used to it. After that its a breeze.  Then you will be like everyone else and look up and see its getting dark and not even notice you worked all day lol.
