We members of the LDMA started receiving letters today that the Blue Bucket, Oregon LDMA property was shut down until further notice. No explanation or anything and the contact information they left us in the letters does not work. I am starting to regret paying for this membership. What are Tom Massie and his family doing to the LDMA?

  • Well the Pick & Shovel we get as LDMA members says they have found new caretakers at the Blue Bucket but it still won't be open this year until "repairs" are done.

    • Why does a camp site need repairs? It is rough camping there, something else is going on.

      • I think you have the wrong site P&L. The Burnt River/Cave Creek site is rough camping with about 250 dry spaces and a clubhouse and recently had an outing, but the Blue Bucket just a few miles away and just off the Interstate, is a nice campground with 200+ dry camps, 12 full hookups and 12 water & electric only. It has a large two story house on it and several trees. The house itself could be needing repairs or up where they were cutting into a hillside could need reforming, I'm just not sure. I'm not in a position to roll up there and look it over right now but it is on my list to return to next year. I do know that the size of the spaces was a bit small and they could use resizing for the big rigs with room for slide outs, something that would be a little hard to do when I visited last.

        • Never been to any of the western properties. Was thinking it was rough camping from what i read on LDMA website. Anyways, Stanton has been open during all its repairs. All i want as a member is for the main LDMA/GPAA office to be upfront in telling us what is happening with the property. they have been very secretative and removing post on the GPAA forums about the issue. Send me a letter telling me the truth with a simple explanation is all. If they sold it fine, but if they hit a pay streak and are shutting it off so they can mine it then I have a problem.

  • You are so right P&L and Keith. I don't like sneaky underhanded crap like that. There has always been rumors of malfeasance associated with both clubs. Hiding the fines from public view after a GPAA get together doesn't exactly instill trust. Of course, the excuse was for "security"! I guess their "family values" don't quite stretch to grandma and the grandbabies who came to their first outing, whaddya think? Rumors abound in any venture that involves treasure I suppose, but what do they hope to accomplish by mumbo-jumbo and misdirected, evasive answers to what most people believe are reasonable questions. I mean that's the "security" they should express to their public, in order to keep their members and attract more new ones like Keith. Open-faced honesty has been and should always be the best policy. I've never been to an outing, yet I have heard rumors and that is a prime example of trouble. As it stands, your question of a possible "pay streak" is not out of bounds and if not addressed could cause irrepairable damage to the clubs. This Brandon character needs to get on the ball before the exodus starts and he loses his clubs. As far as campgrounds go, I can find far better RV clubs to hook-up to on their properties for far less.
  • I was at both the Burnt River and Blue Bucket last year. At that time they were getting a new caretaker at the Blue Bucket. Are they having trouble keeping caretakers there or what? That is a very nice house on the property and no one would have a problem staying in it during the winter. I am a member of the LDMA and I like to be able to hop in the motor home and travel, stop and pay six bucks a night and be "near" good places to explore, rockhound and prospect. With hook ups and nice people most places and freedom to enjoy. Burnt River is a "dry" camp next to a river and is pretty nice and as long as you are self contained you can stay there free. The year before last, I stayed at Scott River LDMA Camp on the Klamath in Califunya and prospected claims on the New 49er's sites. For ancient old fogies like me, LDMA can be a boon to keep the costs down and I believe no company or corporation is without problems anywhere. I don't have the luxury of having my own claims and I don't like being tied down to one area anyway. Sure I pay monthly, a reasonable amount I feel I can afford although often I do wonder if the "maintenance" fee is actually applied to maintenance when I read stuff like this. I really don't see a lot of affirmative action from the LDMA like I do with the 49er's but I've never been asked for help for legal fees from the LDMA either. I'm at a "wait and see" attitude on the Blue Bucket but I feel that it will work out without too much excitement.
    • Dan, I just want them to be honest and let us know what is really going on. I think they found a paystreak and now off limits like some parts of other properties they have In Cali and Arizona. The discussion is really heated on GPAA Forum and the so called president of the LDMA, brandon show states he is Tom Massies oldest step-son has now started to removing post from members in the thread that he does not like.
      • I seriously considered signing up for LDMA at the Wisconsin GPAA show a few weeks back, but decided to wait until spring.....

But the way this is being handled has convinced me that LDMA is not for me. That's a lot of money for them to decide: sorry, closed. Who is to say they won't shut the whole thing down next week, month or year? The simple definition of the word "Association" implies something much different than the way they are managing things. They won't answer simple questions and they are deleting comments without addressing them. The whole thing stinks of something Dakota Fred would do.

  • this is why i have never joined eather of them never had to always had my own claims to work old saying a fool and his money are soon parted

    • LDMA isn't about Gold but another way to travel and camp cheap or even live after retirement .... always better places for gold than LDMA grounds but no better people to be around than in the GPAA and LDMA ... we love it
