  • hey, glad you got on here. you will find some friendly folks.
    I am a gpaa, ldma, 49's roadrunner,weaver member.
I know, its alot but I have acsess to alot of room.
My son and I am heading up to the 49's on the 8th of august for the weekend outing.
the others are right, maybe some of the clubs are abit$. 49's have a deal right now, for 50 bucks you get an asso. member to try out the club.
gpaa is 70 bucks or so, lots of claims though. (some think the claims are worked out). I get color all the time .
it depends on where you want to be, and how far you want to travel.
Alot of clubs you can go to for free, to the outings. A great place to start. most are friendly and a wealth of info can be had.
what kind of prospecting arre you going to do? let me know if I can help!

  • Welcome AU Grey Wolf,
I was bitten by the Gold Bug about 30 yrs ago What a wonderful disease. Not knowing anything about the claim or claims you are interested in I can't give you any direct advice about them, however Probably since you are new to mining, joining a club or clubs might be a better approach at least until you get some experience under your belt.
By joining mining clubs you have a lot more places you can work and you will be able to connect with experienced members. I have met members of some of the clubs in Arizona who have found nuggets, weighing several ounces, with a metal detector.
If you buy a claim you should be able to work it a little before you make the purchase. You also need to make sure that whoever you buy from is the legitimate owner. Just because a person files on a claim doesn't mean they are the legal owner, they might have filed over the legal owner. Back when we owned our claims computers were not being used in court houses, this it was hard to keep track of who really owned what. Maybe things are better today. Once you get some experience and decide what type of mining you enjoy the most, then I think it might be a better time to consider buying your own claim.
    Happy hunting
    John

  • Welcome, Larry.
You have come across a very friendly and helpfull bunch.
Feel free to ask all the questions you want.

Before you jump out and join a club, check to find one that is near or in your area.
Personally, If I can't drive there, set up camp, and at least run a bucket through my sluice, I usually won't go. I don't want to spend a whole day drivin', and be all worn out when I get on site.

    • good advice by steel pan.also i would hold off right now about prchasing 60 miles or whatever, of the klamath river. unless your totally geared up and frothing at the mouyh right now.there might not be any dredging next year.never heard any bad about ldma they have non dredge claims. desert stuff.most gold is in the desert.see you there this winter. i will be nose down, butt up,sukin da bedrock!
  • Welcome AU Grey Wolf,
I'm just a beginner myself, started a little over a year ago, but really love it, ain't got rich but I have found a little gold, so it keeps me going. I am a member of the GPAA, looked at the 49er & LDMA, a bit costly for my blood right now but I am thinking about joining at a later date. I even got my better half intrested in metal detecting, so we have a great time. Good luck and may the bottom of your pan be yellow.
