Do your hip waders leak?

Well, you pay around $40 for your new hip waders and a few months later they begin to leak.

Usually leaking along the original folds from being in the box.

Dang frustrating, eh?

Well, I came up with a fix for the situation.

"Shoe Goo"!

It will seal the leaks and is flexible too.

I'm on my 4th season with the same waders.

  • I've used Shoe Goo to repair holes in my waders as well.  It works great and it's cheap.

  • I just use duct tape.  I keep a little in my prospecting kit, good for a lot of other things too.

  • I use that stuff called RV? Same kinda silicone stuff as Shoe Goo I think, but I usually find it cheaper. I haven't had much need for it here in the waderless high desert wastelands lol, but I imagine it will do the same job, I've used it on just about everything that needed a seal, tents, shoes, etc. It's the "100 mile an hour tape" for the next generation, although I wouldn't try building a boat with it, ?;~)
    • Desertratdan,  Actually called RTV (100% silicone)   We used it on many applications while working on commercial aircraft for sealing around the lavatories and areas where sectioned interior parts are put together.  However, I would agree with Steel Pan on this one.  RTV does and will become more prone to breaking apart if it is flexed often.

      • Nope, sorry Bro but this stuff is actually called RV from the "Amazing Goop" brand and I generally buy it at your friendly Wallies store near one and all, usually in the RV section. I'm retired Army and Air Force and I used RTV a lot when I was in the Air Force part. I have seen it and in fact I have a small tube of it ($22.00!) used for engine repair. Not to be used lightly. I probably got took on the price but my Harley deserves the best.

        • Got to go with Dan on this one Amazing goop (I find it at Home Depot)  Works  I used it on my mud boots a year ago and its still holding they also make a compound for pvc pumbing repairs I have used it to build a sniping scope and on my barbie sluice project with equaly good results.

  • Speaking of letting them dry, ....... after you apply the "Goo" you only have to wait about an hour for it to set.

When I find a new leak, I can patch it, eat lunch, then head back to the water.

    • my waders don't leak at all...once I get water in them, it usually stays in there all day long..it never leaks OUT
  • Here is another tip to find the leak.  Put a air hose and a 5 gallon bucket at the top of the waders put a few wraps of plastic wrap around the bucket to seal the waders to the bucket and blow air into the waders,  Not to fast though, they kick like a mule!   Now all you have to do is get some soapy water and spray the seams and watch for bubble.  Mark the spot and repair away after you let out the air and give it a chance to dry.
