  • I need an honest opinion from the experienced guys(and gals if there are any), Blue bowl concentrator or Desert Fox? Blue bowl looks like it takes forever to run concentrates, but is a third the cost of the Desert Fox.  Wondering if I should get what I can afford right now to work my concentrates, or save my money for a couple months and just get the D.F.

    • Bryan,  I think and I'm sure others will agree the spiral wheels are not as good on the real fine stuff as the bowl is.  The bowl you will want to classify down to batches of say -30, -50, -100 mesh or so.  I believe the wheel would just keep pushing these sizes back down.  Correct me if I am wrong here guys.  The Blue Bowl was specifically designed to capture the very small fines and would not work properly if you were putting in anything much larger than 20 mesh.

      • Thanks.  So owning both would be a good idea? I don't even have classifiers that are that fine.  Gonna have to save my nickels, I guess.

        • Bryan, you can get in a little cheaper if you get a bucket sluice concentrator and an 18-20 mesh screen bowl set at bed, bath beyond for $14. The middle size fits a 2 gal bucket. They dont work great like commercial ones but you can get by. Oh and a grease screen for a frying pan. and a good grade black finish pan. SE brand works well. Jobe works to get by. But it takes fine panning skills.  Something you should learn anyway. Taking -100 mesh cons and panning by hand to get every bit of gold out is very possible. I do it every time. I think frying pan screen is 30-40 mesh. $1 store thing. you crinkle bend them and they go bowl shaped. I have one in the closet if you want to see a picture. I can find it and post it up. Eventually you will want a real screen set and a BB but you can get by on the cheap to get started.

          • cool, thanks

            • Bryan for 50 mess screen a old baking flour sifter works (it's about a 60 mesh) i used one for a couple years. someone at a gpaa show told me he used fiber glass body shop mess for -100 screen never tried that. heck you can be the  hero to the story and try it and let us know how it works

              aka 2 dogs

  • The tip with useing a small bubble leavel real works out great.

    • I found if you get a dvd or cd you can glue a round leavel on it,it works great for leaveling the blue bowel.

  • TRY GOLD LAB 3 PARTS

  • Hi Dennis, I could not find any web site 49er prospecting store.com There is a 49er mining supplies.com with a Rob but then again he has no videos on his site & doesn't even sell the Blue Bowl. Do you have a link to the video you are talking about.

    Thanks much, Bill
