12 volt powered equipment

Lookin' for 12volt motor and speed control. "Cheep" Just like some of y'all here, I'm a tinkerer. Always lookin' for another way to do things. Been conciderin' a car heater fan motor and fan speed controls, but..... Any ideas or sources? Laziness is the mother of invention, not neccessity. LOL

  • Depending on what you are making, a windshield wiper motor might be best.

I know the Gold Genie used a 12 volt wiper motor, I assume they still do.

  • Best 12V motor I have found is the ones they use on wheel chairs...the whole set up can be variable speed and very powerful.  I use one on a 4 ft. drum trummel set up.
    • ok so this thread came back to life did the classifier ever git built?  any pictures

how bout fotos of the trommel?

http://www.surpluscenter.com/ is where a person can git a lot of decent oddball items for prototyping

      • Thanks for sharin' the link, cool stuff!
      • Trummel will not get to me here in AZ.  until a friend brings it from Baker City Oregon for me. March      5th.  I was just letting the guy know that the wheelchair motor is by far,  in my opinion. the best motor to use when you want variable speed, and power.

I was going to suggest using a wind shield wiper motor as that is what some friends of ours used on the
Gold Genies when they manufactured them years ago, but I see after reading further that several of you have already suggested it.

Ya know, I seriously concidered the wiper motor.
The way that the blower motor mounts is better suited for my use.
It's easier to find the speed controls for a blower motor. Very many wiper controls for cars are the hesitation type. That won't work for me. I don't know if blower controls would work on a wiper motor.
    Thanks for the reply.
