I definitely wouldn't be prospecting for gold in a beaver pond. I prefer moving water so I can run actually run my sluice box. I don't need any injuries.
For beaver, it would be a 330 conibar, and it could possibly break an arm, but not a leg. Around here, beaver trapping starts in Nov, and ends in April, so not much chance of running into one while prospecting. You are much more likely to be bitten by a beaver, sticking your hand into a beaver hole, than getting caught in a trap. I don't prospect in beaver ponds- not worth the effort.

Beaver ponds are gross,tried it saw the fecal matter on the bottom and got out of there.

beaver makes dams that sometimes are in stream and rivers and creeks
and yes i have seen the beaver trap that in water but i was not prospecting it could easyily break an arm or leg
