11-21 another sweet old coin

Had a few minutes before dark to check out a cellar hole I've been thinking about lately. Gonna go there Sunday and put some time on it. It's only a 5 minute walk from the truck which was nice as it was only 26 degrees. I got to the cellar hole and only dug a few targets. After just 3 holes my hands got cold and it was about dark so i walked around the hole and about 15 feet from it got a signal. The ground here is in the sun and not frozen but the trail through the woods is solid. I dug the plug and flipped it over and this is what I saw....

I took a pic of the cellar from where I dug this up...

Heres what I saw when I picked it up...

A round piece of mud lol. Flipped it over and was a little better...

I could see the stars around the inside edge and was 90% certian it was a large cent. I didn't want to screw it up so brought it home without wiping it off (not easy for me to do lol). I thought I could see a date and knew it was gonna be good. I hurried home and rinsed it off in the sink and gave it light scrubbing with toothbrush and this is what it turned out to be. An 1848 large cent. Not in bad shape either....

For only digging a few holes I am absolutely thrilled to have this coin and cant wait to get back on Sunday! As always....It was a great day!

Just to show size comparison.....heres a pic that explains why they are called Large Cents.

Happy Hunting!
