It was brought to my attention that it was called a class key. I've never heard of such a thing so googled it. It's a class ring in necklace pendant form...pretty cool! I borrowed a pic from Jostens site to show a new one....

Radio show winnings

Thanks to Steve Frantz for donating the Clovis tools, agate, petrified wood, and necklace to mount any of them to... Cool to think they were used to carve up Mammoth, Bison, and Camel 10,000+ years ago. Mmmmmm tasty.

Made the Local Newspaper

The other day I found a class ring from 1984 while metal detecting a local San Diego beach. I posted my finds to Facebook and within a couple of  hours the owner has been located. But what makes this so special is that not only did I find the owner of the ring, I also made it in the local newspaper in Pennsylvania.

The Ring was lost 34 years ago and now its making a 2500 mile journey back to it's rightful owner. I am so excited that I was able to find the owner and to return it to him. According to the news article, The owner is calling his class ring "his lucky Ring"

Here's the Article of my find.

Paydirt spam

My wife got me some paydirt from 2 Ebay sellers.  Over the last 10 months she has been getting a bunch of emails selling paydirt.  She saved them in a folder and here is the list.  I sorted out the duplicates and grouped them.   My favorite is Nick's Big Nuggets.

Still looking for claim-friendly location(s) to test a new magnetometer system that I developed to map now-buried former stream courses by sensing and mapping black magnetite sand deposits close to historically productive stream locations.  Help with the digging also wanted.  (TopoMag project -- my involvement would be totally at my expense).

Thanks Shad

Finally get to listen to Wednesday's show. Take Shads advice, crack a cold one and look at the pictures scrolling at the bottom of the page. I quickly discovered I didn't buy enough beer for this.

Small Delay

The car went into the shop to get some needed maintenance.  Parts had to be ordered, so departure may be delayed.  Grateful the vehicle will be good to go when it's done. I can't complain too much, this is only the second time in 244,000 miles it's had to go to the shop overnight.

Worse case I head directly to the West Coast rather than heading up to Ohio first.   Keeping things flexible.

There is a local (3 hr drive)  prospecting club meeting tomorrow I was hoping to attend, but I'll catch it next time.

Planning a trip, sort off

Picked up some Delorme Map books for Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California and Nevada.  Already marking them up with places to check out.

Stuff I have so far, Tesoro Compadre metal detector, the little scoop basket, GPAA gold pan kit and the hand held detector from Harbor Freight (which seems buggy).  I found a small hand shovel at the thrift store. I finally picked up some Garret Headphones.  Just the simple ones for now.  I had attempted to use regular headphones with a 1/4" adapter, but the volume control wouldn't work at all.

Next thing is to research the areas I'll be headed to.  Lots to learn, this should keep me out of trouble for a split second or two.
