Lytle Creek,CA

Ok, here we go. tomorrow we are hitting the creek has hard as we can. we have hit hardpack at four feet deep or so and it's like concrete. so now we are going out there with a new tool to break that stuff up to get at the bedrock and get some gold. i'll post pics of the progress and are findings. last time we did not find a whole lot but it was there and it was a little chucky, it was small.i got the dredge and the power issue all figured out. i spoke to mark keene and he said that the set up is just fine and that i need to run the motor half throttle to three quater throttle. i have a new blaster nozzle and hopefully we can find enough gold to pick up the floats and frame.I started with a pan and found enough to get a sluice. i worked my butt of with a buddy of mine and found enough to buy a two inch dredge. worked with that for a year and sold that and some gold to buy the four inch. it's incomplete for now but who knows we find enough to buy a bigger dredge and run the two side by side. i'm really excited for tomorrow my partners son is going with us for the first time ever. he has never prospected a day in his life so we are going to get him started with a pan and shovel on the banks. i think he will like i hope, (the boulder moving might run him away)! my partner les has been trying to get him out there with us for at least seven months. i think he is super excited to be able to work with him in the great out doors and teach him to find a little gold.Thats all have for tonight, i'll let ya'll know how we do tomorrow and post alot of pics. i got rack out now so wish us luck, and if anyone is in the area stop on by, i drive a grey nissan frontier.Talk to ya'll soon,JeffSo we went out today again to the same spot and got the hole seven feet by at least ten feet in diameter. we did pretty good. got alot of fines, one small nugget, platnium flakes, and one platnium nugget. the ranger came and met us. told us we need a plan of operations to dredge out there. i did not see anything in the gpaa claim guide about that. and i've talked to the gpaa about dredging the place and not a word about. i won't be able to get out there for a few weeks or so. i'll post pics when i don't forget the camera. we did take some underwater pics but i'll have to get them developed and then scanned. oh and the hard pack is four feet thick so far. no bedrock yet, with the god getting bigger as i go down i can't wait to see what goodies are on the bottom for.Talk to ya'll soon,Jeff

  • Vini,
that's just what i was thinking. i've been looking into it.so that's just more money that i don't want to spend. unless i find the gold to buy it. as far as the blaster nozzle goes, made one out of a two inch trash pump. i think i might just fab., a six inch if i have the time. thanks for the help.
hows the gold going up on the san jaquine?<<
  • also get a blaster nozzle on that pump so you can blow up that hard pack
  • Hey HB might consider making an underwater 6" to get the over burden off the top and get on the bedrock.
  • gary,
we are working on the GPAA claim. from what i understand if one goes off that claim the other owners can get a little hostile. "no fighting or nothing" just being pissy.
  • Sorry, I'm a new guy to this forum so pardon my seemingly dumb questions. I live very near Lytle Creek. Are you working on a claim there? I have been looking for a good place nearby to use my 4 inch Keene dredge. Let me know if there is a place nearby that I can go.

    Regards,

    Gary
  • Joe,
There is so much overburden out there, sampling one hole with four inch is going to take at least five or six all day trips. we did not find anything to jump up and down about, yet........
but i think that with some persistance and maybe one more dredge working together it may be worth it. good luck with your claim, i hope that the feds don't shut mining down,it's all i have to do anymore. i know i might not get rich but it's well worth the try.
  • I was wondering how you did out there. Was your spot accessible or did you have to pack your equipment in? I think Lytle Creek should have great potential if someone is willing to put the sampling time in. Good luck with that. And after the gold show in Primm I'd like to make a trip out with you. Either to Lytle Creek (if there's water) or EF. Tomorrow I'm going out to the desert to stake some claim posts of my own. A group of us filed on some land before the current administration makes it off limits.
  • Steve,
Sorry i've never heard of a dan peters. i have been scouting out lytle creek for a little while now i and i've not seen any signs of dredging so far.

Ok so we went out dredging all day long. the weather was fair. the sun was out most of the day with a steady cold wind blowing right off what snow is left. we were well frozen with in an hour of being there. so we toughed it out and jumped on in the water. we did not find alot of gold, maybe around an eighth af a gram. not alot of pay out for the amount of work. we sucked down to a hardpack layer that was a foot thick and we are going to continue to go till we hit hardpack. i hear there is alot of bigger gold there it's just really deep. i'll keep you all posted on are progress. sorry for not having pics this time, i forgot the camera. next week i will not forget it.
  • Hi Jeff
Do you know a prospector by the name of Dan Peters ? He also has a claim there on Lytle Creek. I think he's on the middle fork. He runs a 6'' I've been looking forward to joining him there for a new adventure. I currently dredge on the Kern in Keysville and sluice on the lower Kern. Good luck today.
