jaw bone canyon and kelso creek,california

help we are going to this places in 2 weeks ? have u been here? road conditions, access to creek (50 feet-yards or miles?) camping access, tents or camper dredging,highbanging or sliuce or drywashing - metal decting thank you for anyhelp you can give thank you members

  • Jaw bone canyon is dry as a popcorn fart my friend.Although their are numerous primitive places to camp.Alsoas u come into jaw bone,a few miles in,maybe more,ther is some good looking material to your left in a little canyon.We have gottrn some color there,good luck

    Iwent to Bickles Camp in stead of Kelso Creek it is 1.5 mi off hwy 14 at Jawbone ranger station
    Met Mark at the camp a BLM employee
    showed us the ropes around, and where to dig we found 1/2 gram with dry-washer 8hrs total

    DIDN'T NO I COULD GO IN MY VAN, ROUGH ROADS WITH SAND ON THE SIDES
    • It was a great time. Having a sun umbrella really helped. Long sleeves and a hat kept me from getting burnt. Gotta remember to wear gloves though.

      I am going to join and go back there and try some other prospecting ideas. Mark was a real cool dude. 4 wheel drive would have really helped, but as long as you are aware and have some clearance you can do 2 wheel drive, AS LONG AS IT ISN'T RAINING.

      Tomorrow I will take pictures of the gold we found and post them.

  • Hello--as far as jawbone goes-there are numerous camp sites.Also there is a good county black top road in.Kelso creek? That I am not sure of.NOTE-it gets very hot out there this time of year.Take plenty of water.Cell phone use is marginal in area.Ranger station and bathroon at jaw bone road entrance.
