Desert Prospectors

Anyone go to Coolgurdie out by Barstow lately? I go out there all the time and always find gold sometimes more than others. Day before Easter I found a picker in my cleanup from my gold buddy drywasher VERY COOL had to show that one off but for the amount of dirt I have run it was about time for the mother earth to give something up. Anyway Who heads to the desert on the weekends out there? anyone have helpfull information?

  • My wife and I were out in Baker last week end. 100 degrees at 2300hrs. Bad.
    • Yep, sure is getting hot out there! I spent the weekend in Big Bear (holcolm valley) drywashing. Ran my sluce in deep creek for a bit to cool off, bugs only ate me a bit.
  • When time permits,Bill and I usually out in the desert somewhere. But,I must admit ignorance of the area you mentioned
    • Grant, Coolgardie is an old area of placer mining around the mud flats and Harper Dry Lake, N. by NW of Barstow. Lots of claims there now but once in awhile you can stumble on a picker or two when noone is looking, lol! If you head a little east from Barstow towards Coyote dry lake, my brother use to get peacock ore from a claim he had before he was forced out by the grinding wheels of Califunyas big spenders. I don't know if there is are claims there now or not, I don't travel west much anymore.
    • Grant are you going to the gold show?
    • Hope to see you guys out there sometime. I try and get some gold every weekend out in that area. Lots of space in the Mojave
