I posted some picture of some yellow mud that I dug up at the bottom of a creekbed and was wondering if anyone has seen similar material? I run it through a cleanup sluice and it seems to stay with the black sand. Gold powder maybe? Its so fine that it can't be panned.
Just wanted some feed back before I get excited. If it is gold powder, how can I separate it and not lose half of it?
Yea I am a noob!

Chris do u need someone to come down and jump start you with a swift kick in the right place to get you started?
Sometimes I think that'd be nice! I did however do more cleanup today. Got the magnetic sands out and panned it down as far as I could. Run it through a 30 mesh screen. Still the yellow is there! Way too small to pick up with tweezers! Gonan let it dry then try to separate further. May have to use Mecury to see if its gold!
Chris just a bit Curious I'm wondering if you have analized your yellow mud yet ?
Not yet been working too much. I am currently building a highbanker so i can process alot more stuff tho! I need to get my lazy butt out in the garage and clean up the stuff I already have. I will post more pictures as soon as I figure out what it is.
Thanks for inquiring! I'll keep ya informed!
I run some of the mud through a sluice box to clean it up and what was left was alittle puzzling to say the least. Black sand were visable of course but you could also see streaks of the yellow powder running through the black sands. The yellow powder was finer then the black sands. Even when you pan the material to just black sand, you could run your finger through the sand and see yellow streaks in the black sand. I grew up on this creek and have never seen the yellow mud before. Usually red and some gray. Course this is the first time i actually dug that deep. Once i can get better pictures I will post them for more opinions.
Thanks!
Howard, coming from you, I am humbled by your compliments! LOL! I would say that I have found more gold than mud! Ha! At any rate, with all of the minerization in NC and especially in Chris' area around Charolette, no telling what he has. That is one of the nicest gold bearing areas in NC that I have been to. I've also found mud in that area!
I think he needs to find a local that might be able to help him distinguish what he has, what he is looking for and what he might find. A good start would be Shay at Easterngoldprospectors.com. He's not far away and I believe he would help anyone out.
I'd love to get out your way and find some non-mud yellow out there! LOL! Keith
