Write the Governor

I suggest writing the Governor. Here is a link to send an e-mail: http://gov.ca.gov/interact#email but I recommend sending a letter too! Here is an example letter: Dear Governor Schwarzenegger: Please veto SB670-Wiggins or any bill seeking to place a moratorium on suction dredge gold mining in California. This activity is vital to our economy and will affect individuals, businesses, and anyone that supports the mining community. The EIR, ordered by the courts and subsequently funded by the State of California to determine the effects of suction mining is now underway. The Director of DFG recently rejected a petition from anti-mining activists for Emergency Regulations, stating that there is no evidence to support the request. There is no scientific evidence to support shutting down a legal and legitimate enterprise before the EIR is completed, particularly when prior studies fail to demonstrate any link between local salmon populations and suction dredge mining. Much of the millions of dollars brought into California by gold prospectors is spent in local, rural counties where mining is popular. Tax revenues generated for expenditures such as fuel, groceries, camping and mining supplies, means that rural counties and the State of California benefit as well. A moratorium on suction dredge gold mining in California will violate the private property rights of Californians who have federal mining claims along the rivers and will result in very significant “takings” liability against the State.
