Now I found a small broach years ago with an old BFO metal detector and one of those real small Indian coins about the size of a blueberry not long after that with the same BFO detector, Mustang was the model I think. Old skool tech lol.

Read about sweeping the floor after the Gold Show LOL! That was a good one. I just swept the kitchen this weekend and saw some sand....my pic is up with two specks of spill flour.

But this question is about NATURAL state gold. Chunks, pickers, tiny nuggets, fines, and flour.

Where did you find it? Home, Car, Yard, Front entry? some other weird place? Did you get sloppy? Or did someone else?

  • At another GPOR meeting we did a "Chinese Laundry" washing the clothes of a member who worked in a gold recovery job. In the 1800's the Chinese often set up laundries in mining camps. They made a living charging for laundry and also recovered significant gold from the miner's clothes. Needless to say, we recovered gold from this members clothing that night.

I also met a miner in Central City (an old Colorado mining town) who won a bar bet by going outside the bar, sweeping the street gutter and panning the dirt to find a small amount of gold. This was about forty years after most commercial mining in the area had ended. Again, this is residual gold dust falling off of clothes and shoes of miners coming into town for a drink after work. The town workers are rumored to regularly recover gold from the storm drains there.
  • I was a member of Gold Prospectors of the Rockies and they had an award at each monthly meeting for the most gold found that month. In the winter months, the " most" is often a small amount. I had panned a little flour gold in January on North Clear Creek. I had left the gold in the pan. In a rush to get to the meeting I grabbed the WRONG pan-(an empty one) and an empty vial. At the meeting, I quickly panned the "empty" pan in the kitchen and put the minuscule results in the "empty" vial, entered it in the contest and won a free raffle ticket due to lack of competition. The raffle ticket, in turn, won me a 1.5 gram gold nugget. This was all the result of nothing more than residual gold left in my pan and vial, both of which had been rinsed out previously. Since this happened, I now do not assume I am finding traces of gold at a new location until I have done several pans there. Sometimes you are just seeing sticky residual gold in the pan from previous panning.
  • i found fine gold specks on the toes of my sneakers i wore in the river in N.H. after i got home and the sneakers had dried

  • For me the weirdest place i found gold was when i lived with an xgirlfriend in my 20s i was looking for some socks in her dresser (she always stole mine) when i came across an old tube sock that had to weigh 2 or 3oz i opened it up and dumped the contents on the dresser, out popped a full set of gold molars!! Turned my stomach. They were her grand fathers teeth. It was also the grossest gold i ever found. A word of caution! Be very wary of heavy socks!!!
    • Laughing here Scott    that story give one thoughts to chew on !

      • that girl and her family had strange momentos. Back then the gold was only worth 300/oz or so. They were jewish and the grandparents were from the holocaust and actually inprisoned in the concentration camps as young kids. Her grandmother was a really neat lady and great story teller. She lived in san francisco at a retirement facility (very nice place) and i ways looked forward to visit her. My girlfriends mom went to school in sf and was good friends with danny glover, i never got to meet him, but she had something that was so incredible it made my hair stand on end when she showed it to me. I have always been a huge baseball fan, i grew up playing darn near every day all the way through collage. One day we were talking about the game and she said she had something she wanted to ask me about. She went to her room and came back with a folder, when i opened it i was left speachless, it was the original photos of joe dimaggio signing his very first contract, i believe with the san francisco seals, the folder also contained all of the negatives. Her highschool friends father was the photographer and had given them to her. She really didnt know what she had. I knew they were very valuable and told her to have them appraised and insured and to keep them in a safe. I still feel privlidged just to have seen them
  • While driving in the desert tracks of New South Wales (Australia) stopped for a boil up and coffee. Walked 10 meters from 4x4 detected 1.5 grammer. Stayed for 10 days got 184 pieces for 5OZ neet find, going back with the dryblower and clean up the fines.
    • when i got my keene 151 dywasher I was so excited i couldnt wait to get out to the claim to try it out so I hit up a arroyo or ditch behind my house here in Albuquerque.  I ran 2 5gallon buckets of beach like sand through it and found a pice of fly poop !! In the middle of the city, in a arroyo !! Was small but still...

      • At our last club meeting, one of our older members showed me a vial that had several small pieces, maybe a -20 size. He said he panned it out of a tube of sand. ( like I buy at Lowe's for weight in my truck.)
