What size water pump?

I have my highbanker ready to go and have saved up enough for the water pump but not sure which I should go with. 1 1/2" or 2" from Harbor Freight. The size of the highbanker is 12" wide by 4ft. long. Any thoughts before I go and make another mistake? I know that portabilty is an issue but I am making a cart that everything will sit on so it wont be that big of an issue. (hopefully) Also the pvc pipe that feeds the head is 1 1/2 " if that helps.

Thanks!

  • I use a 2000 GPH   12v sump pump for the recirculating sluice I run. I have to pinch the 1.25 hose off allot to keep from blowing everything out the end of the A52 sluice box.   Grainger has them for pretty cheap. I havn't tried to put a header box on it yet to see if it will bust up any clay and such but I bet it would. All you would need to cary is very, very large tuperware and a reasonable size battery.   Hope that helps some

  • If I was you I would save up A little longer and buy Honda I have been running Honda equipment for A bunch of years now and have never had A problem . Just my 2 cents

    • I bought the 3' in a scratch and dent sale for $85. and it works great on a highbanker combo but I have to just let it idle and it will still drain a small creek very fast. even when i bam the creek up. the i1/2 would be plenty unless you want to add a suction hose later

  • Sorry wasnt paying attention again! Just saw the earlier post  about water pumps. Think I may go with the 2" from Harbor . Have a friend that works there and she said she would get me an employee discount! Whoohoo! Loves them discounts! And I am a cheap sob! excuse me,  frugel sob!

    • Yeah, I'd go with the 2".  You can always idle it down or reduce the flow with an inline valve, but if you are not getting enough water with the 1.5", there would be little to nothing you could do - except maybe go buy yourself another pump!

Keep us posted on your first trip out with it.  Post your gold pictures, too!
