  • Can't see a whole lot of detail but is it possible that it might be the remains of an ore roasting oven?  Don't know if they roasted copper ore, but gold ore with pyrites was generally roasted in ovens that were set back into hillsides to get the benefit of the insulating value from the rocks and soil.  The ovens were not steel or iron but they were a bed of rocks.
  • There was a big article on these walls in one of last years GPAA gold magazines. Lucky you got to see one.
  • Is there an old roadbed or haul road up there?  It looks like a little fill area for a road.  Just a guess, as it is hard to tell from the picture.  Hmmm...alien landing pad????  :)
    • It would be interesting to look for Nordic signs like they have found in other areas. Once I came across a similar structure in Colorado that the old Conservation Corps built for a shelter while they were building a dam in the boonies. They left behind a bunch of old broken dishes and some cheap silverware. I wish I had had a detector then!
    • Pretty steep area...But it was put there for a reason and I'm sure a 100 years or more ago there may have been a road grade there that I didn't notice......This was logging country to so who knows...The wife and I are going to head up there soon so if we find anything or figire out what it is we'll post it up...
  • wow didn't i say house foundation
    • Clyde

You did say house,That's why I was thinking if he finds nails round it that would really make a house foundation fit what it could have been

  • I'm just thinking if there's nails maybe it was a cabin or something was built on it
  • You might detect it see if any nails are found
    • Actually I don't hit but certain places on and around a shack like that, including everyone's favorite the outhouse. I do get my fair share of nails, though. It's part of the process of detecting.
