upgrade on detector

I suppose this has been asked before. I have a Bounty Hunter Prospector that I would like to upgrade. We have used this detector for meteorite hunting in the past so we are very familiar with it's operation.
The area in which we metal detect is highly mineralized with many hot rocks.
I am considering upgrading the coil. They do make a DD coil that will adapt to this particular model but I"m not sure if that will solve the problem of hot rocks. We currently get signals to 8" in depth.

Thanks!

  • 1st Texas (Bounty Hunter) does not make a DD coilfor your unit.  But they do have a 4" nugget coil.  You would have to send your unit in so they can frequency match the coil to your machine.  This is just in case your machine has drifted off frequency through use and time.

When I bought my 2 BH machines that was the 1st thing I did.

I've been happy with their performance for the last 5 yrs. now...but it might be time to get them recalibrated.

    Hope this helps,

    Terry

  • I seriously doubt that changing the coil will help.  Most VLFs struggle in areas you describe. If the ground is really bad, a PI is the only way to go.
