Trommel build

Hi I get my 12 X 36 inch,1/2 inch screen, 3 foot trommel barrel last week.I had the same ideal, but with a 1/2 then a 1/4 inch barrel.I was going to off set the second hopper under the fist trommel bucket chute. When I measure it in height it was around 4 to 4 1/2 foot high.Thats hard to shovel.Having 1/2 inch screen is because I don't want to miss a half inch nugget. Now I have to classify to 1/4 inch right or can I run half inch rock down a sluice?

  • I believe you will find that the amount of water will dictate the ability of your unit to handle larger material.  Secondly the time the material is allowed to stay in the drum will play a major role in the "wash" affect you desire.    If  your drum has horizontal  beater bars they will play a role in that desired "wash".   Also you might give consideration to bringing  a "chute" or "sluice" off the side;  at a 90 degree angle to the drum in order to avoid a height issue.    I prefer waist high hopper to my drum.

I would suggest you play with the unit and make a determination how your trummel operates effectively.   Watching the "wash" (which can be dependant on the "dirtyness" of your material)....then adjusting the angle and water flow of the sluice.   Good luck.
