Total NEWB question what to bring.

Hi all,

I am a total newb here so this is a newb question LOL.

What to bring ? I am heading To Marquette Michigan tomorrow for my remicade treatment and I'll have some time after to either do some water detecting or try my hand at gold panning in Ishpeming Michigan one area has 3 gold mines pretty close and the rivers are said to have placer deposits.

I haven't done either in this area of the U.P. but I am leaning towards panning and wondering what to bring.?

this is what I am bringing:

Gold pan

Bucket

shovel  what type  small folding or large spade?

I don't have any classifires but I do have a small sifter 1/2'' that I use for bottle hunting.

what else should I bring?

    Andy, 

    Saw that you went to the Marquette area in 2011.  I grew up nearby, in Ishpeming, home of the Rope Gold mine.  Beautiful area.  Did you have any luck?  I have tried several times in the area and seem to just end up with bullets and shotgun shot in my pan or box.

    I always like to take rubber waders ,,,snuffer bottle ,,,large spade,,,snacks and drinking water.
