I came across these in my creek awhile back and decided to take a closer look tonight. Is this a normal occurrance for gold? I looked at both under a microscope at higher magnification and saw that the upper left piece has a red crystal (garnet?) "growing" on it along with some other stuff. The lower right piece has what looks like a cubic metallic crystal in the center of the red circle. I usually see this type of stuff on quartz.

Very Different than anything I have come across the only thing it brings to mind is materials that have been subjected to very High Tempetures !
