Has anyone ever prospected around the South Pass City area of Wyoming. I am looking at a job near there. The job doesn't pay a whole lot so I was wondering if I may be able to supplement my earnings with prospecting. Any info on the area would be helpful.

I just ran Fremont County, where South Pass City is located, through the desk top prospector and it gave me 24 locations of known gold areas. You do have to sort through the entire report as it lists everything from U (Uranium) to SNG (sand and gravel).

Thanks Mark. Ive been playing with the LR2000 and Geo sites. Im new to all this so its taking a little while to learn what everything on the printouts means. Time is all it will take to figgure it out. and I should have plenty of that being as I dont have much work in the winter.
I lived in W. WY for 13 years and made it up to the South Pass City area many of times. Much of the area is already under claim or is privately owned. Contact the BLM Office in Pinedale, WY at 307-367-5300 to get the latest info. Even if there are areas on BLM or FS lands that aren't claimed, you will still have to wait until June or so before you could get to many of them. Lots of snow up that way in the winter!
