size of a dredge

I am thinking about buying a dredge and I am not sure how large is large enough? I would likely have to use it by myself but in very shallow water. Where I am wanting to work is in Wy near Sarasota in Carbon county. I actually need to know if Dredging is allowed there too I guess. I have been a diver for years and guess I would want one with air for possible other work but the place I am wanting to work first all is water under three feet deep. I also would need it to be light enough to move around alone most of the time so I might be limited quite a bit because of that. Thanks PG

  • A 4" with air would be my pick I also dredge and move my equipment alone and have found the biggest problem is the motor itself I made a backpack frame carrier for it they can be purchased also from the army surplus they used them to transport gas cans I think I'll try to find a link for you but by all means opt for the biggest dredge you can pack you'll be glad you did
    • I'd go with a 4 inch. I love my Keene 4" Mini and I can handle it alone. Most places I dredge allow up to 4 inches and the 4 can be restricted to 3 inches if necessary without problems. The standard 4 inch Keene is a little too heavy for me to handle by myself.
    • Here is the link to the backpack frame I was talking about worth it's weight in gold when you need to get those heavy items in the back country.

  • Depends on alot of things. I prefer a 4 inch . I have a keene and if you break it down it can be moved pretty easy. But takes a few trips. For shallow water or no water check out Midwestprospector's new nozzel the hydro force. I have one and they work great. It also works just like any other nozzel in deep water. Also if your in shallow water consider a header box. If you break the surface with the nozzel on my jetflare make sure no one is standing behind the dredge.
