    • Good on ye Spur! I don't mind snakes but Rattlers...I don't let them live either. It would be my luck to come back and bite me in the ass.

  • You might be correct. But in all my days, many years, only seen a few, but maybe I was lucky, but I was always an alert for them. We all do need to be alert for many things, not just snakes. Ticks, bears, mountain lions, loose rocks. Gold mining moves rocks and big rocks can pin you.

    • For sure, there are a lot of hazards in the hills, and if we all report what we see in the areas we go maybe together we can prevent someone from getting hurt or worse! Even if we dont see anything its a good idea to have a reminder after a long winter of sitting at home. I know that even after a month of not digging, the firs opportunity i get to go, i am almost at a sprint when hiking to my spot, and the only thing on my mind is getting as much digging in as possible and the hazzards are the farthest from my mind. Lets just do our selves and our fellow prospectors a favor and keep reminding eachother of the dangers and maybe we all can make it home to our families and loved ones which are way more valuable than the gold were searching for
  • I grew up in Foresthill, CA did not see to many of them. I have caught them with a stick and my hands. Just make a lot of noise and carry a big stick and hit the bushes with it if they are there they will let you know or they will move out of your way. Otherwise you should be ok.

    • Ive been fishing in the foothill and up in the mountain streams and lakes for the better part of 40yrs and only ran into 1 rattler.  So its not something thats on my mind when im up there and it should be. I know most of you veteran gold prospectors are aware of them. But i just thought i would post a reminder. Especially the new prospector needs to be warned of the snakes and to be careful. Its also a good idea to find out where the nearest help might be in the area your prospecting before you head out. Be safe fellas
      • Yep, great post Scott. I always try and gps the nearest ER on my Garmin when I roll out prospecting just in case...cause I come across Rattlers all the time. I counted 7 in one day out in Bullhead once, and only two rattled...or it could have been one that rattled and the second was my knees knocking!
  • Now Bucket's Snake is big enough for dinner he needs one of Cecils Road Kill Recipes !

    • I gotta tell ya Howard, that was by FAR the biggest rattler I've ever seen in the 18 yrs out here, although these days I only get 1-2 per year. When I first moved into the Bucket compound I used to get atleast 1-3 per week but none were big enough to get out of a five gallon bucket...this one had no problem clearing the rim, the diameter of this hog was about the diameter of my wrist. I'm counting 8-9 rattles in the photo.

      • OK, so you can share with your buddy Boomer.
