I recently obtained a list of older claims that have been closed for years1960's-1980's  Some lode and a lot of Placer.

Really interested in some of the placer ones in Yavapai AZ, but wouldn't mind picking up a few to hold for retirement days.

Im on east coast now.  I have a few questions on obtaining new claim.

1.  If I fill out all the paper work and get the claim approved, maintain fees, it should still

current if fees are updated.

2.  has anyone ever obtained a new claim without posting signs and corner markers per blm requirements?  do they just look at paperwork or come out to check the property?  Small scale placer mining is my best intrest, although i have a tractor with a loader and a 8 ft backhoe.  LOL its 4x4 too.

3.  In researching people I read that people knock down corners signs etc..

4.  any tips on best places to claim, beside the obvious places existing mines or gold found in the area.

valleys where washes take place in AZ.  Water would be nice for small sluice plant.

5. anyone out there interested in marking corners and posting claim signs / prospecting these claims to see if these claims are worth it.

Thanks,

Rodney

  • These claims are unpatented claims that were abandoned by previous claim owners.  I have looked them up on the BLMs

software claims were closed dues to yearly fees not being paid.

  • Well looks to me like you could get bit on this. Big if there was a first half certificate for patent filed the fees payed and accepted by the BLM then the land is not under the locatable land laws, so it would still be under the ownership of the person who filed and payed the fees on it. You would be clouding the title and damages could be sued for. The local BLM office would have records of any filing of this type.
