Question about NC pay to dig places

Our chapter is looking to do a group trip next season to NC and try our luck at filling some viles. The four places I know of are.....

Vein Mtn
Lucky Strike
Cotton Patch (only open exclusively to groups)
Thermal City

Anybody here been to all four or any of them... interested in hearing some feedback good or bad on them.

  • Thanks for the input  Cabarrusgold

  • You forgot Moutain Creek beside Cotton patch. Both Mt. Creek and Cotton Patch have very fine gold. Thermal City and Lucky Strike have better gold in regards to size but they too produce mostly fine gold. If Vien Mountain (mine/campground) is located beside Lucky Strike, then I would say I was not impressed the time I went. Thermal, Lucky and Mt. Creek have camping to cabins available. They also rent equipment. Lucky has a store to buy cooked food and Thermal has a prospecting store but no food. Most of us that go are at both locations during the day. Our club will be at Lucky Oct. 25 weekend. Lucky also sales 25.00 and up, pay dirt that has pickers in it. The NC mountains are very nice during the fall. Happy hunting!

  • Thermal city i use to go to but they are rude. Ive been going to the campground that is in between thermal and lucky strike its $15 with helper for my 3" the guys nice and ive been finding bigger Pieces of gold. Its called carolina emerald and gold camp.
  • thermal city by far the best of all.

  • Our chapter just had a two day outing at the Lucky Strike. we recovered 26.4grams. a lot of pickers but no nuggets. great people running the place, a nice setup for sure. We will go back again next year.

    • Thanks for the feedback guys....really appreciate it..... keep it coming.

  • At Thermo City it is $10 a day for panning at the "Panning Pile", and for that same $10 you can also go panning , sluicing in the river, and run a dredge up to 3", if you have a 4" dredge (maxiumun size allowed there) it's $15 a day to dredge.

  • Hey Darth, I have been to them all as well! There's Lucky Strike and the have Dredging, High banking rentals or bring your own and hook up to their water for $5.00 bucks they have a wash plant but you will need 6 to 10 to run and pay for it! the pay dirt comes from Bracket town up Vein Mtn road or dipped out of the river in their swimming hole ( nice stuff) you can dredge price going off the size you have. panning place to sit and eat!!!! $10.00 small buckets, $25.00 big 5 gallon to pan or take home! Bath house and 1 rental cabin! camping.

Thermal City is just down the road I thank $25.00 to dredge with a helper, they have loads you can high bank, or rent one of theirs, Their wash plant they give you 4 hours to run your load so take help or rent it all day, Panning $10.00 all day last time I was there ( no place to sit No buckets allowed in panning area) No place to eat! Bathhouse and rental cabins and camping.

Cotton Patch call to rent if you still can?

Vein Mnt. Camping, panning, dredging cant remember  the prices sorry!

Gold is good at any as you will fined, they have had above normal rain fall the 2nd French Broad was out of the banks in places 4 times this year = new old gold.......I in my opinion only thank Lucky Strike has more river to work dredging from the campground to the bridge on Polly Sprout Rd and they have 200 or so acres in Bracket Town if you a member you can go to! If you need anything send me some mail, Ill get back to ya!

    • Will do Keith
