Prospector Strikes Gold in New York

Well Ladies and Gents, I have been missing the goldfields and my home State Arizona, a lot lately. Family woes, business woes, looking in the mirror - let's just say it hasn't been a whole lot of fun lately here in White Plains, New York (my other home).

As a few of you regulars have read, I knew I was stuck on the East Coast through the Summer, so I asked Rusty Henry, Service Manager for Tesoro up in Prescott, to send me their submersible PI unit, the Sand Shark - for the beach. I manage to get out to Long Island, about once a week to hunt the beaches. It isn't really nuggetshooting, but it is a good thing for me as a substitute - or I would be a lot crazier than I already am by now! The last two-days, have been extraordinary.

I found my first ring in the surf after about 100-hours of detecting New York and Connecticut beaches - a Titanium wedding band, mens size 14 - on July 7th. Over the last two days, I finally struck gold - and silver here on the East Coast!

Yesterday, I found the silver (.925) ring, and today I got the 14K band with - DIAMONDS! The jewler says they are nice rocks (big one 1.5-karat, two 1/2-K). Gotta say, yesterday and today lifted my spirits - a lot!

  • Thank you so much everyone! Desert Rat Dan, Yes - Tesoro Sand Shark. The Minelab will amaze you in the dry sand.  I LOVE the Sand Shark in the water! Peter and Lisa, the White's MXT is a MONSTER in the dry sand! You Will find the good stuff! I really can't wait to get the Sand Shark on a couple of patches I know up behind the Octave!
    • Heck, I really thought the Octave sand would be a little mineralized? Don't worry, I wont go there, just to see how well you do with the Sand Shark, if for no other reason. What kind of discriminator does it have? Can you tune out mineralization with it? looking forward to your reports on that fine machine. And Peter, I have heard nothing but good about White's MXT and I wish you many big nuggets with it. A very good unit.
  • Well, when I practice with my new White's MXT Pro this weekend to learn the quirks, I hope I get a hit or 2 like you did. Wow, nice going.
  • Congrats, Terry!  About time you hit that beach gold!!!
  • Very nice, Terry. That was taken with the Sand Shark? I'm headed to Florida for the Holidays this year and I'm taking my cheap submersible with me and my XTerra 70 and I'll see about working the beaches a little. You have inspired me! There just has to be more to the holidaze than fruitcake!
  • Nice finds !!

  • way to go terry
