I have been prospecting here for a number of years.  All of the gold I find is exremely fine.  I've read up on the history of mining here and there is some mention of course gold...even nuggets, but I'll be danged if I can find any.

I have done it all from dredging to sniping.  Now...I want to try finding gold with my detector (coin-shooting is getting old).  My detector is a BH Land Ranger.  I know it's not great but it's the best I could afford.

At any rate...I'm wondering if there's anyone here that goes nugget shooting in Western Wa.

Thanks Terry

  • To my knowledge there has never been any large amount  of nuggets found on the west side.  Lots of fine and some course.

I know the few mines that have operated over the years did pull some good ore out but were down deep.

I joined the Washington State Prospectors last month and have been a member of Bedrock out of Puyallup for last three years.

Most of their productive claims are on the East side Bluett Pass and Liberty area.

If you get a chance to see the Mining Journal Magazine you will see where an old timer over on his claim by liberty, called the Potato Patch got two back in October.  One was 16.5 oz which he sold for about 40K and a second at 13.5.

Unfortunately he passed away since then.  I am just biding my time and getting things ready to head over as soon as the snow is gone.
