Printed Circuit Boards

I have some old circuit boards and would like to try to get the gold out of them. My first question is can anyone show me (pictures) or explain in detail exactly where to find the gold on the circuit boards?Secondly, I don't really want to get into the whole chemical thing, what are some of the easiest ways to get the gold out without risking smothering from poisonous fumes? Any help/suggestions will be appreciated!!

  • Buy some paydirt instead of wasting your money on chemicals. It’s not worth the time or money. Just try and sell the boards on eBay
    • Thank you for the information, Corey!

  • My info says it takes about a train car load to get an ounce.  The only, and I do mean ONLY acid that will dissolve gold is called aqua regia and is a mixture of hydrochloric and nitric acid...damn nasty stuff and it's so unstable that you can't store or buy it...you have to make it.  This stuff will dissolve EVERYTHING, then you have to have more chemicals...too expensive and dangerous .  It's all poisonous fumes, whether you melt or dissolve it.

  • This Site has a Forsale blob and Reclyling PC Au./Ag is what they Do. http://goldrefiningforum.com/

    • Thanks again, Dennis!! I have registered and will start doing my research after while. Got some other things to take care of today before going back to work tomorrow. I really appreciate the link and the info!!

      • You Can Apply the Knaledge to Bigger Things with Less Bio Mess Like Heap Leaching or even running a Cement mixxer With a Lead or RinoLiner to Process Ore. http://www.theweekendprospector.com/ You just Need a Way to Powder Them Rocks, I've got More if your Itersted.

  • I don't think you can get away from the chemical processes when dealing with recycling PCB's or the ceramic CPU chips for that matter.  Some people use an impact mill and basically pulverize everything, then float out the plastics, remove the  ferrous metals with a magnet, and then whats left if a lot of solder, a bit of silver, copper, gold, etc.  and that is when the chemicals comes in.    Some have burned the boards, but that is just a mess and a blob of plastic which probably uses more propane than the values would pay for.     If you don't want to mess with the small amounts, put them up on Ebay for sale or something.    There is a product out there (somewhere) that is supposed to strip the boards, but I think it would be a strong acidic etching chemical or something.

    • You Nailed it !! Put them on Ebay the only way to make money that way is buy Bolk becouse of the Waist, Lets not for get that Float Water is now Waist Water that Needs Treatment, so use as little as Posible with Recycling in mind. You could Crush it Dry and put it on a dry Shaker Table with a HepaFilter Vack  ??

      • Thanks, Dennis! Sounds like Ebay is about the only way to go...unless I can find a recycling company around here that will pay me for them.

    • Thank you for the info! I will see what I can come up with.
