It is hard to tell if you have platinum without, an assay, or maybe one of the electronic gold testers, some of them are suppose to be able to test for platinum as well.
MINDAT......either .com or .org.........or look up native platinum.......I have been looking into this as well, my gold magic picks up this silvery heavy substance and I have been trying to find out what it is exactly...but I guess it has to go to a lab to be assayed....hope this helps ya out!!!
If you have some nitric acid you can test it. I used to do refining many years ago. Silver will dissolve in nitric, but gold and platinum won't, or at least most of the platinum group won't.
