places to hunt for gold in N.C.

A freind of mine was talking about a long weekend trip to NC to look for some gold . Dose anyone have any recommendations for such a trip? We are not from the area and will need a place to stay. Is NC the best place on in the east to good ? If there are better spots in the east I have not heard of please let me know

    I am going to Thermal City when they open, which is march 15th!

    I am planning to go to Thermal City Mine which I know a lot of people go to but I have not been there myself. It is just east of Ashville.
