  • Well Chris, the whole REGION is fantastic, so it makes a difference what you mean by the "area". Also, are you looking for places that provide the dirt and a place to wash it, or are you just looking for places to dig and pan your own gold?

    • Mostly for a day trip around Charlotte. Not really into the pay by the pan or bucket. I like to get dirty and look for the sweet spot to spend a day! I have a gold potential map for  Mecklenburg Co. and surrounding areas and its unbelievable the potential for finding gold! This is a good area! The problem is finding the spots that are not privately owned and are not heavily visited by picknickers and onlookers. McAlpine Creek seems like a good location but havent had any luck there yet. But still looking!
      • Uwharrie NF is an excellent panning location. There is big, chunky gold to be found there and enough miles of creeks that you'll never get bored. Explore it and you will soon have your own "honey holes" located.

(By the way, our own "Pappy" really knows his way around the Uwharrie. Give him a shout.)

        Heavy Pans,

    • Have you came down into sc at all there are some places that have gold in them.
      • Just finding the time to go further is my main problem. I work tooo much and have just a few short windows to get out and look. I heard that Uwharrie is having a sort of gold rush at the moment and realy trying to make time to go there for at least a whole day. I have seen some great videos of prospectors in SC!  Rather live in SC anyways.....taxesand gas much cheaper! Hope to get there soon!
