  • Hi Jeff I went to nydec .org and look up the mining director I think his name is mike he's a nice guy
Just tell him you wanna do it just for fun
  • i live in northeast corner of pa but i pan and sluice in NY. if u come to Pa dont pan or sluice on game lands its illegal.i checked with the PA game commission . jut thought u should know mike.

    • Thank you.  I did not know that.

  • Don't trespass on people's land, but utilize public access areas.  Pan as you can, until an "official" comes along and tells you that you can't, then ask "why not?"  Hopefully, you get to keep what you have found and they don't cuff you...

BTW, I'm an authority on nothing, so do your own legal research!

  • I live on New York also ,I called dec in Albany I spoke to the minerals manger and he told me you can pan but they just don't want people to tear up the rivers . The law where you find any thing is form 1776 and the state is trying to change the outdated law. I would urge to call Albany and speak to them. Here in the Adirondacks I plan on to look around while I'm fly fishing this summer I have all micro stuff and when I told this to the minerals manger he seemed to be ok with it. I want to find some garnets and gold . This summer. Basicly if you act in a respectable manner and not trashing the streams I think you will be ok. If you find any thing down there please let me know if I find any thing up here I will let you know
    • sounds like a plan and Will do.  This all started when I found flour in a small spring coming from the hill behind where I camp.
