A few days ago, a person was recharging his mobile phone at home.

Just at that time, a call came in and he answered it with the charger still attached to the device and the outlet.

After a few seconds, electricity flowed unrestrained and the young man was thrown to the floor with a heavy thud. The phone actually exploded!

His parents rushed to the room to find him lying on the floor, unconcious, with a weak heartbeat and burnt fingers.

He was rushed to the nearest hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival.

Cell phones are a very useful modern invention. However, we must be aware that it can also be an instrument of death.

Never use a cell phone while it is connected to the electrical outlet! If you are going to answer a call while it is plugged in, unplug it from the outlet before answering. It could save you a serious injury or even death!

This article was re-typed from a post on Facebook and originated from the University of Miami.

The next time that you are charging your phone, notice how hot the battery area of the phone gets. It just may surprise you!

  • I've heard off-brand replacement batteries for cell phones can be a fire hazard or can even explode also...KK

  • Jeez, wouldnt even have thought twice before reading this post. Now im thingking i dont want to be the second recorded victim. Not the way i want to be famous. More than likely there was some water present to cause this but still. Not worth the risk
  • Thanks for the input, Dusty! It was just an article I saw on FB and I know how hot my daughter's phone gets when she is charging it. Just thinking of everyone's general safety. By the way....jealous here! I don't have to worry about boulders or logs in the river (I'm in the desert)...just a freak flash flood from rain on the mountain rolling down the arroyo or the occasional rattler, brown recluse, or vulture if I don't keep moving. LOL! You guys are where the GOOD gold is...and you have plenty of water to work with. I have to pretty much bring my dirt home to work it right now...don't have much equipment yet. Thanks again and stay safe!!

  • There has only ever been one recorded instance, which occurred in India, in August 2004. I believe the risk of this happening is extremely low. I think you have a greater chance of nearly being squished by a boulder rolling down a river. I think Flour Mike will agree with me! ;)
