Need some input.

Ok so I found out that during the civil war era there was a placer mine 2.5 miles down stream from me. (the creek runs through the back of my property) I have found flour gold above bedrock, and will be going deeper over the next few days.  Where i need some input is on whether or not i should move deeper into the bank or stay on the edge of the water? According to a topo map you can see that at one time my creek was much bigger and had a slightly different course. Thanks for the advice and I hope we all fill truck beds with the yellow stuff.

  • take a post hole digger and sample the area you think  the creek might have run, if you hit gravel it might be worth digging a test hole. you can rent a gas powered digger  rather than using a hand one. might be worth your while?.

  • Personally I would take the stream bed down to bedrock before I started tearing up the banks.  With the exception that if I found a hot spot like a crack in the bedrock that continued up under the bank, I would be tempted to follow the hot spot for a bit.

Good luck, keep up posted.  Pictures help.
