My new prospecting area

Finally got permission to prospect a 3 miles stretch of river here in Southern Indiana.

Done a little panning and sluicing to get an idea of potential.  Nothing spectacular, but I do have it all to myself.

Testing showed around 30-50 pieces per classified 5 gal bucket.  Nothing big at all just the typical Indiana small flake and flour gold.

The total cost for me to get this place was the exceptional part.   Cost me a gold pan and a panning lesson to the old farmer who owns the land!   Threw in a couple pics of my new home away from home.

  • Nice find, I myself am lining up areas to prospect upon here in Ohio. With three request two were granted the third was denied as the land owner got into trouble with the Corps of Engineers in a matter that was not related to prospecting and he didn't want the Corps possibly bothering him.  I think a lot of landowners (I myself one) get out into the country to get away from people and really don't want strangers in their backyard. However I think that some land owners might want to consider the recreational use of their property as a potential for income. I always thought it was ironic that a person that owns sizable land has a big RV in the driveway, lol. Gee on my seventy acres I just open the windows up and rough it! lol  Na I have the tent set up on my pond.

  • Looks like a very nice area, good luck!

    • Hi Ron, you are sure a lucky man.  I live in Southern IN also but never found that many pieces in a 6 gal bucket before.  And then only very small pieces.  Best of luck to you.
