Mono vs DD, Minelab GPX

Hey everyone, I am looking for some input from someone that has a lot of field time with a Minelab. I plan to predominantly hunt with a large coil in areas of HEAVY mineralization. I'm talking places where I can't hardly stabilize the threshold of my VLF on very low sensitivity.  I have been reading up on many debates about DD vs. Mono coils, and there is just so much bickering out there I can't make sense of it. Can someone give me some advice about what type of coil I should plan to use for areas with heavy heavy mineralization? Will a mono be too affected by it? Do I lose significant depth with DD? Will i have to cut the gain way down with a mono to get a stable threshold? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I have plenty of time, by this winder I will hopefully have a good setup and put tons of time on the new detector when I get it. Thanks!

  • Howdy............I have done OK with the mono Coil on my old 18000. But have done great with the dd eliptical. Always in heavy mineralization. Just gotta beat the ground and find out whats happening...Good Luck  Bob

  • The guys I know that are serious gold hunters with the Minelab GPX 5000 all use the mono coils for best depth. Holler if you have questions.

  • I did that kind of ground on the south fork a couple nights ago. It was a suckathon. Found one tiny piece the size of just a bit smaller than a split pea half. didnt know it was right on top and mixed it in with the tough ground....doh. The rest of the time it was a dance between chatter and break up and no hits. (GBII)
